I must admit that it dosen’t bother me if some people do get it for ‘just doing their jobs’ (inc well known people) it just shows that some people can get recognised for doing that which ain’t no bad thing.
A system like this can never be infallible, and a small minority of people who are seen as not justly deserving of an award will always somehow get through.

The less said about the majority of these awards the better.:(

Why is it that these people in show business get such awards, for Gods sake they are only doing a very highly paid job at the end of the day.
When did you last hear of Joe Blogs who has worked on a lathe from the day he left school until the day he retired, get such an award.

I think you two have fallen for what the media tell us a little too much, they are bound to report the high profile awards but ignore the unheard of people, but they are on there.

Three quarters of the 965 successful CBE/MBE/OBE etc nominess are people that have been recommended through their outstanding work in the community, many voluntary.
This is a good example, and certainly not something I would fancy!

I must admit that I have grown bored with it and rarely go on it now, it is ok for catching up with long lost friends etc, but that is a quite short term thing anyway.

The Italian Job, the original one!
Plot is a bit thin and fails in places but a fantastic 1960s feel good film non the less. Music (Quincy Jones) is brilliant from the opening scene with the Lamborghini Miura to the famous “Self Preservation Society” chant, brilliant filming and camera angles, and superb actual car chases and stunts.
What a cast, who would have imagined Noel Coward, Michael caine, John Le Mesurier, and Benny Hill appearing on the big screen together!
A good wet Sunday afternoon watch.

Whatever next? The banning of step ladders at airshows (I hope :diablo:) ?

Nice shooting soldier! Those and deck chairs should be banned from airshows, at least from the front-line, oh and the chav encampments of around ten people complete with picnic hampers to feed a milion and a radio blaring out.
I’m kind of with the festival organisers on this one.
