Personally I think that this proposed scheme will look terrible and will devalue the aircraft. I accept that the Vixen has no particular military ‘medals’, but nevertheless I think it should be flown in as representative a scheme as possible.
Whilst we are all glad to see her flying and very grateful for corporate money making that possible (although I’m not convinced that this is the right marker sector for a product like Red Bull) it should still be feasible to do that without completely covering the airframe like a London Bus.
Sure, they will want some corporate logo on the aircraft, but that can be done discretely. The commentators can do their bit by always announcing her as the ‘Red Bull Sea Vixen’ and I’m sure that there will be trade stand selling merchandise.
I don’t subscribe to Davids earlier comments about historic Stearman and AN2 and the Utterly Butterly’s because there are other examples of that aircraft preserved in correct schemes ( I do however factor in the substantial difference in running costs between the types). I also certainly would not wish to see the Vulcan flying with Andrex toilet tissue or Mcain oven chips emblazoned over her majestic lines.
The Spirit of St Loius is a Swedish replica of the original Ryan aircraft, I will post a piccy later when I’m home.
The SU 26 is an aerobatic aircraft surely, bit like an extra 300, not very interesting at all.
Better make the best of shows like Biggin hill this year because outside of Old Warden and Duxford I don’t see much else happening.
Douhgnut,
That will be flying condition them, because thats what she was in, it was just the paperwork that was missing.
Lets get behind this, not fight against it, XH558 deserves to fly and there are people willing to do it, so support it.
Stop being so negative:( 🙁 🙁
Why is it that in this country, no matter what the subject, we can turn a glimmer of hope into something totally negative.
Alright , there is some ‘flannel’ in DR Plemmings’ post, but what do you expect, he’s trying to whip up some enthusiasm for gods sake. People need convincing that this is a worthwhile project , but surely not the people on this forum, we should be glad that this has a champion and be helping VTS swing public and HLF’s opinion. Clearly HLF think that there is ground for further discussion, why else would they suggest a re-submission.
As for future locations, well ,its not and issue at this stage
RE: Please help solve petty argument re Sally B
I can remember seeing the Lanc ‘landing’ (loose term here) at North Weald one display were there must have been a local x wind which caught them by surprise. She came down on one leg heavily and skewed to her left rapily, resulting in the leg looking as if it was about to fold under the side pressure and the wingtip coming nevously close to the deck. She managed to snap straight and roll to a halt whereupon the whole of the BBMF ground crew rushed to inspect before she was taxied off.
I know the crew were a tad shaken ( understatement) as my Brother-in-law was nav that day and I spoke to him shortly afterwards.
RE: Airshow Irritations!
Diffent ecconomies, diffent public accountablity and different taxation rules !
RE: What’s the gem for Flying Legends then?
Yeh, I know , lets just agree to disagree and get on with being enthusiasts and enjoy this forum and the aircraft that we get to see.

RE: What’s the gem for Flying Legends then?
Although I don’t necessarliy feel that I need respond or justify my last posting I would just like to point out that I did not resort to name calling.
I was merely saying, in my opinion, that some of the comments were childish and somewhat inane.
Very few of us actually have any service connections with particular aircraft types therefore no allegiance and as such should be grateful to be able to see such a vast array of historic machines on display and acknowledge their(and human) contribution to what we all enjoy today. Its all too easy to be blase about shows like legends because it was so good right from the start, so as I said before just get on and enjoy it and stop being so fickle.
Look forward to ‘bantering’ with some of you on the flight line this year.

RE: What’s the gem for Flying Legends then?
I have read most of this thread I am amazed by some of the opinions, and I have to say, rather juvenile wishes and dislikes.Whats all this ‘don’t like Spitfires, Skyraiders are a waste of sky, boring British WWII camo schemes, don’t like P47’s, don’t like Constellations, want more loops, no Breitling fighters, BBMF are boring , poor photo oportunities etc etc, what a load of crap.
Wake up , as our friends in Europe and the US keep telling us on this forum, we have about the best ‘Warbird’ displays there are, I doesn’t get much better than Duxford and Old Warden…..anywhere.
Just be thankfull that they exist and that people are very dedicated and prepared to put these shows on. ‘Too many Spitfires’,I have never heard so much rubbish, how on earth can you have too many of a very significant historic type with so many marks to represent.
I know that the subject of how they should be flown is a different thread really, but the benchmark is Hanna/Grey tailchases and Charlie Brown in HFC’s spit, graceful yet showing the aircraft at its best.
Revisit the original question ‘What’s the gem for Flying Legends then?, you all missed the point, THE GEM IS FLYING LEGENDS!!!!!!.

RE: A Christmas swapshop.
Sparky,
You genuinely don’t know who Val Dooinigan is do you.
Lucky bloke I wish I was still your age.
RE: Duxford get-together update
Sorry to have to report that I won’t be able to make this bash, I wasn’t sure what my wifes work pattern was going to be until after Xmas and unfortunately next weekend she has to work both days.
I’ll be thinking of you all whilst I’m trying to keep my kids entertained at home.
Ashley, I will try and get a cheque in the post so as I can win the jar of sweeties!.

Bump ?
RE: 558 hopes dashed ?
I’ve been out of circulation for a some days now through work and other committments and was wondering if there was any news or movement on the XH558 front.
RE: A question on filmscanners
Snapper,
It sounds as if you really know your stuff regarding scanners and quality.I would like to have the gear to do it really well.I have had all sorts of problems with scanners to date, the Epson I originally bought went back to PC world because the driver just would not work on my machine (2ghz P4 256ram 60ghz hard drive)with XP. I exchanged that for an HP 1400dpi which is fine albeit a bit fiddly with the slide adaptor in the lid.I can get reasonable results from it if i print files that have been scanned at, say,300dpi(upwards of 25mb) and sized at A4.
However this does take a lot of faffing about and is not always repeatable.
What do you think is the cost of doing it properly.
