I will be doing Abingdon this weekend, then:-
Coventry at the end of May- Previous Coventry shows have been good.
Kemble classic jets – a must
Waddington- Excellent VFM last year
RIAT can get stuffed- Poor VFM any year (I will go for departures on the monday)
Legends- Not been for last two years, although I read that not much has changed.
At least two visits to Old Warden and another to Duxford- cant survive a winter without a fix of Shuttleworth and its the LGV’s last flying year.
DH Moth rally hopefully- again missed this last two years, a good event
One of the proms concerts (might be as one of the above mentioned visits)-these seem to be on the increase so should be able to make one of them.
Yeovilton – I enjoyed this last year, its a bit different, although the sun can be a bugger because its in your face all day, so not very good for photos.
So all in all a quiet year.
They are down to perform at Abingdon this Sunday as well and it is rumoured that there maybe a pass through Old warden.
Well,I’m a purist so I’m trying out a new Nikon F80D, unfortunately I wont have my new lens in time for the weekend (80-400VR Nikon).
Actually it was a tough choice whether to go digital this time or not, but as I couldn’t really justify the cost of the digital and I was offered a deal that I just could not refuse on the F80D my mind was sort of made up for me. I will go digital, but not until I can afford the best kit (or the wife allows me!).
So its good old slides for at least one more year for me, which suits me well for my talks ,at least until I can get a stand alone CD projector to show digital images from.
Ok Moggy I’ll look out for you and that very smart looking Piper.
I havn’t seen the full list of ‘fly-in’ aircraft so I dont know what to expect. I do know the BBMF are ‘displaying’ as is a Hunter and Denny Dobson with some of his breakfast churning stuff, but out side that I know little else aircraft wise.
Cargomaster- Its good to hear someone else trying out new camera gear, Digital or proper camera ?
OK Moggy, what will you arrive in should you get to Abingdon?
David,
Not sure on your inside knowledge, but it does sound as if you are implying some sort of insurance claim and its validity. Or is it something more sinsiter ?.
It says the it now will not be making the journey, it does not state why. So lets not all jump on the old CAA bandwagon.
As David says, I dont believe that there are too many issues with the Shackleton flying in the UK. It may be funding, who knows,
lets wait and see. I will be very dissapointed, as this was to be one of the years highlights.
Are you gloating because you are going Seagul ?
For a moment there I thought that PaulC was reponding to the last post and had already been on the ‘Blue Cow’, I now realise that he was responding to the thread in general.
Moggy C, excellent dry humour as always, however unfortunately I do not need to ask anyone else what the psychedelic era was all about, being a product of the 50’s.
Moggy, you are clearly no engineer as what you have made in your shed is not a time machine but a still , the output of which some mind bending liquor. Feel free to send me a sample so as I can join in.
Right a few points to answer here:-
Moggy C ,
You were fairly close with the top 5, its normally:-
Jumbo
Concorde
Spitfire
Red Arrow (doh)
Lancaster
Closely followed by
Hurricane
Beoing (doh)
Tiger Moth
Sopwith Camel
I would imagine B52 will feature tomorrow night !
I don’t disagree with what you say about the Victor, I just know that it has far less appeal as an airshow attraction, in fact some airshow goers would not know one if they fell over it. I would love to see both flying but given the apathy shown towards Vulcan funds the Victor has two hopes , Bob and No.
BTW Moggy your picture keeps reminding me of someone, I just can’t put my finger on it, uum maybe a slightly narrower mastouche and hair swept to one side…………..
Lancman.
Get some new pants or else you will be in trouble at airshows, geez I used to get pretty exited at the sight of the Vulcan but not to that extent, control yourself man.
Paul,
Very well put reponse , ra ra,
Phil
In many respects Doughtnut is right, but is suppose its because the Vulcan is seen as symbolising the cold war deterrant . It also epitomises what was the finest aviation manufacturing country in the world at the time, it oozes inovation. Besides that, and I think that this is probably the deciding factor for many ‘fans’, it is aestetically beautiful, its powerfull yet gracefull, there is nothing like the ‘elaphantine’ roar of that roll and rotate.
One of the things that I do when giving my aviation photo talks(I’m doing one tomorrow in the Reading area) is ask the audienece(mostly non aviation people) to name three aircraft.
I’ll let you guess what the top 5 are.
Phil
In a word NO.
How much attention do you think the Flying Scotsman would get from steam buffs if she were streaking across a viaduct painted like a tin of beans………
Well same applies.
I know you will say ‘can’t have it both ways’, well I think that you can. Caroline Grace’s spit has been sponsored by AON insurance for some years, its discretely painted just under the canopy. The Breitling fighters are another very good example, discrete but well publisized. A few years back Dan Air sponsored the Catalina, again fairly discretely. Whilst none of these made me rush out and buy insurance , watches or air tickets I was perfectly aware of who the sponsors were and are.
I have to say no matter how big the Red Bull banner is it won’t influence to buy that sh*t, no matter how much Vodka you put in it.
I’m sorry I just dont think that this is right for this aircraft.
Surely someone must agree, if not I’ll shut up(well maybe)
Phil
Doughnut,
I hope that you are not going on a cruise for holidays this year, as you might miss that boat as well !!!!!!!!.
No hard feelings I hope, we just think each others values are wrong.
Whats more, by replying I bring this topic to the top of the heap where it should be !.
I know that I have no choice(other than boycoting displays) and can have no influence over the paint scheme decision (other than coming into vast amounts of cash in the near future). However I still feel that this type of paint job will do nothing for this aircraft, other than make it look stupid, and feel that there is still room for compromise. I’ll bet those working with the aircraft, whilst pleased to see her flying, will secretly detest the paint job.
Whilst I fully respect the knowledge and sense applied to this forum by David and Damien, not to mention others, in this particular case guys I’m afraid I have to take the other view. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not against corporate, or any other, sponsorship , far from it, its a must. I just wonder, and worry, that this might open the flood gates. Can you imagine Sally B in Virgin Cola colours or some such like
