    RE: 558 hopes dashed ?

As mentioned I have already e-mail the HFL and am currently in the process of drafting a formal letter asking their reasons. I acknowledge that their guidelines apparently preclude projects such as aircraft back to airworthiness from funding, therefore will be asking on what grounds they set that mandate given that they are clearly not an expert body on aiviation safety.I will post my letter here and if i get one , the reply.
I urge others to write as well.

    RE: 558 hopes dashed ?

I dont think knocking other projects that have been awarded funding will necessarily help, as like us they all believe theirs is a deserving cause.
As i said in a previous posting we should all fire e-mails to MPs,HFL etc.
Perhaps we should all also bid against each other on e-bay to help stall the process.
Does anyone have contacts at UK imigration so as we can check if a certain Mr Weeks have arrived in the UK and if so take him hostage in return for £2.5m !!!!.
Why are TVOC so keen to offer her for auction so quickly, surely all avenues have to be totally exhausted first, or is this a major bluff on their part to force the issue?

    RE: 558 hopes dashed ?

    Another approach:-
I think I am right in saying that XH558 was not necessarily the best airframe for returing to airworthy status, I believe the Southend example (sorry all concerned but the number escapes me at the moment) has a far better fatigue life and indeed was to have been the display Vulcan prior to XH558’s selection (by the MOD).Therefore does this equate to a less costly project that all efforts and funds to date could be transfered to ?.
If not, then what representation can be made to highlight the plight of XH558 at a national level. I know we all know about it but do the general public? have all sponsorship and investment bases been covered ? would a slot on national news help ? who is volunteering to be chained to some prominant railings in protest.
    Anything…….please

    RE: 558 hopes dashed ?

What an absolute disaster, what is wrong with the lottery fund holders, what constitutes heritage?. Can they not see the public interest in this, are they deaf, stupid or both.
Surely airshow organisers must be spitting feathers as well as XH558 would surely have been their biggest draw.
I am really p****d off about this, I have done my bit towards funds, as I’m sure many others on this forum will have done, and all to no avail. Its cleary not TVOC’s fault and they must be all gutted and feel betrayed by the idiots who seem to be able make protected decisions about funding for projects that they have no understanding of.
The fact that the public are prepared to raise funds, major businesses are prepared to sponsor and peolple felt passionate enough to lobby parliament should have been enough to convince them that this is worth doing.
    What can we do ??
Boy, I am annoyed and saddened by this.

    RE: Hemswell

I don’t really know the history of Hemswell operationally, my visit was actually to the antiques center and I happened across the airframes and as always had camera in hand.
What type of base was it and when was it decomissioned ? is it only the buildings that remain ?

RE: New Scanner – old piccies

I have not bothered too much with the file size and res for these Jpegs, so they could look better than this. I have scanned them all at full res for archive purposes, just quickly reduced them for this.

RE: BTW, Is ‘Steve’ the chap often at Old Warden with a beard

Yes, welcome to the forum Steve.
I’m afraid it was me who asked about a beard as a result of a chat with a friend(Dave Macready) about the Comet and your pictures. He does the flight line tours at Old Warden and I’m often there too and I asked him if he knew ‘the photographer’, the answer being “I think he’s the chap with a beard”. All a bit irrelevant really, but there you go.
Anyhow it was good info about the Comet, not a good result of course.
Do you have any up to date info.?

    RE: For info

I’m sure you are right guys and of course Shuttleworth will be pretty upset by this, especially given the uniqueness(almost) of the Comet and the interest in seeing her fly again.
I fully accept why the photographer chose or was asked not to publish his pictures, I was just, as I’m sure most of us are, concerned and curiuos.
BTW, Is ‘Steve’ the chap often at Old Warden with a beard.Well you know what I mean he could hardly go without it !.
    I’ll shut up shall I !!.

    RE: Piccies

Had another dig around and found later pictures at Baginton(Coventry) showing the Shackleton(or at least one of them, I think this is the one thats still there) and a Dak which I think is the same aircraft as the picture above (Jan Smutts) in a later guise.

RE: Comet flies 🙂 and flops 🙁

Great shame if after all this time of waiting something has gone wrong, however I’m slightly confused because assuming that the last picture in the sequence is a landing shot the gear looks OK and locked. Could it have been that she unfortunately found a soft spot in the grass taxying back in and sunk a bit.
Just out of interest why are there no further pictures in the sequence ? it would have been interesting to try and determine what happened.
Lets hope its all OK and look forward to seeing her in all of her glory next year and who knows it may not be too long before she is joined by G-ACSP ‘Black Magic’, what a sight that will be.

    Moggy,
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it the DC3 and Shack were at Coventry.I’m not sure what happened to this DC3, was it the one that ended up in that wonderful Belgian ? scheme.
Not sure which Shack that is,whether its the one thats still there or the one thats in the US and hopefully comimg back.
