But we’re better than the Taliban aren’t we?

I understand the sentiment but this behaviour cannot be condoned whatsoever. We are trying win the military battle and at the same win over the Afghan people. Will this help in this battle? No. It won’t.

The UK would probably just keep it’s current flag, saves us the expense of changing it. Plus the current current flag is the recognised flag, whereas few recognise the Scottish flag, so why give up the best known brand name? 😀

Personally I’m fully in favour of Scottish independence, they’ll have to pay for their own benefits and free university tuitions, no more financial help from England. Instead of having a referendum, can’t we just kick them out? 🙂

Again, when you say “we” do you mean British or English? If you mean British you certainly don’t speak for me.

Sometimes it appears that some are ignorant of the fact that Scots pay taxes as well and have a government that allocates funds according to the wishes of their parliament. Is that such a bad thing and isn’t that what we should have in England too?

What happened to “hearts and minds”? How could they possibly think that an action like this would help their cause? And what’s worse, they allowed it to be videoed!

By “our” do you mean British or English, bearing in mind the Scots have paid for their share as well.

That’s not what I mean and you know it. What I’m talking about is the way any discussion about the Dambusters degenerates into a slanging match about “it’s PC gone mad” etc.
Why is it not possible to have a discussion about Chastise, the new film, the old film without the discussion ending up down the usual track?
There are those of us who realize that the Dambusters was about rather more than a dog’s name – not the dog, the dog’s name.

I guess he is. Alex Pettyfer is a young up and coming actor that might fit the bill though.

Actually Colin Firth might be a better Barnes Wallis. 😮

    d) The acting will be hollow because they didn’t actually live through the War, or serve in the Forces.

Many actors make an excellent job of playing servicemen despite never having served – why is that an issue?
Acting is exactly that , pretending to be someone you aren’t and many modern actors are very good at it, indeed better than they were in 1950s.
e.g. Colin Firth gave an Oscar winning performance as a King despite never having been (as far as I know) a reigning monarch. Bruno Ganz made an excellent job of playing Hitler although I’m pretty sure Herr Ganz was never a brutal dictator (Godwin’s Law I know….)

In fact Colin Firth might make an excellent Guy Gibson…

Imagine a remake with modern techniques, dynamic acting, more than two camera viewpoints and full colour. I can’t wait 🙂
