Reminds me of this…
Wow, what a clown that bloke is. I heard about this a while ago – I’m surprised he wasn’t jailed for speeds like that.
Here’s an extract from the 1964 OS sheet.

I reckon the picture was taken around that crossroads of the A538 and the minor road at the 06 end. I think the brickworks is the L shaped building on the other side of the old main road. All that is long gone now.

I was talking about the proposal from Argentina to be fair but you’re right, Paul’s proposal would fall foul of the rules as well. 🙂

Before you all get too carried with yourselves, it is unlikely that the IOC will allow a blatant political symbol to be used as a badge.

Had a few worrying moments in 21 years in flight test. Nothing that scared me particularly at the time but I guess that was training and doing your job. It usually only after that you realized how close you’d been.

Just your closing sentence made me think of some of the old names on TV – could have added Bernard Manning and a few golden oldies who certainly had no qualms about calling a spade a spade 😉
In those days racist, sexist “comedians” like Manning were acceptable family viewing as were such shows as the Black and White Minstrels and Love thy Neighbour. We became a little more enlightened and decided, rightly in my view, that jokes at the expense of race and sex were no longer acceptable.
Alf Garnett was satirical character but sadly too many people didn’t see that.
I don’t think that being rude and offensive to sections of the population is particularly big or clever; most have moved on but there remains some relics of the past. Clarkson it appears being one.

Er… yes. Your point is?

You may have hit the nail on the head. No, we do not have freedom of speech. We never have and frankly in that respect, I hope we never do. People in Clarkson’s position need to be aware that he cannot say what he likes when he likes.
Yes, the reaction has been over the top but maybe, just maybe, some expect those on TV to behave a little better? Not so very long ago nobody would have dreamed of saying such a thing even in conversation far less on live TV.
