And if the customers found out this story is true, which has yet to be verified, then they would do as I am doing, shop somewhere else.

So you’ve already decided it is true then, verified or not.

Always a good place for crosswinds is Leeds. We took test aircraft there many years ago for that very reason. Nearly 700ft airfield elevation and and unusual runway direction for the UK (14/32) make it a prime candidate for crosswinds.

Who on earth thought it was a good idea for an elderly couple to be collecting for that length of time without a break (they must have a better constitution than I have). Unless of course they chose to collect all day themselves…..
Why are you blaming Tescos for this? The couple must have chosen to collect on Tesco premises and be there with Tesco’s permission. If they chose to use Tesco premises then it must be under Tesco’s terms.

You do realize that if you make a big song and dance about this, Tesco may turn round and tell every charity collection in future to naff off as they aren’t worth the hassle.

As a matter of interest Arthur, you have obviously done your homework on the amount Tescos have given to Charity, can you enlighten us as to which Charities they have donated to please?.and how much.

I know it isn’t going to help but here it is anyway – wasn’t too difficult to find either.

And this page was easy to find as well.

    I’m sure it has been a misunderstanding.:D

For those unaware, it isn’t necessary to “open” a copy of the Daily Mail, you can read it from the comfort of your PC here:-

Yes, you’re probably right. They’ll have changed from giving £2m a year to charity to nothing in 6 months – that’ll be it. Better call the Daily Mail to make sure more can board the outrage bus.

    Honestly

Maybe I am being unfair as I would think more along the lines of a test pilot than a regular line pilot – but I don’t see it as unreasonable to expect a line pilot to think along those lines either.

A test pilot thinks like that so that a line pilot doesn’t have to. It is the test pilot’s (and engineer’s) job to query, find reasons etc. The last thing the travelling public need is line pilots acting like test pilots.

While it is easy to get all “Daily Mail” over this, there is maybe a simpler explanation. Collections at stores need to be booked in advance. Did they do that?

    Also I found this
“In the year ended February 2011, the Tesco Charity Trust made cash grants of £1,929,600 to local, national and international charities”

Not too bad I would say.

Still, carry on with the ranting if you want….

Arthur – it used to be an ace club, unfortunately it has gone downhill of late, hence my migration to driftworks. SXOC and Key forums have rather a lot in common these days.

Always loved my S14 🙂 until the day she tried to kill me and bounced of two lamp posts, they really don’t like water…

It was someone on SXOC that advised me to put Goodyear Eagle F1s on. Worked a treat in the wet and stopped the excessive fish-tailing under power. :dev2:

Great car – wish I still had it.

Gratuitous car photo now appears. 😉

You folks may want to blame it on bad training.

    Not just us apparently.

BEA stated that the relief pilot should have immediately called out the excessive parameters. “The absence of specific training in manual aircraft handling at high altitude likely contributed to the inappropriate piloting inputs and surveillance,” it said.

Handling large aircraft at high altitudes and Mach numbers requires specific training as it doesn’t done very often (if at all). Despite what others think, speed is very important when flying at high altitude. The margins are usual very small – maybe 30-40kts or less. Any discrepancy in these readings will have been very disconcerting, especially when the reading went from 275kts to 60kts, coupled with an AP and autothrust disconnect.

Yes, it appears that, not for the first time, the crew made a bad situation worse, something which their training should deal with. If pilots fail to react as they should in a given situation what else can be at fault except training?
