Interesting that a quick Google search finds many organizations that have used Tescos as a place to collect large sums for charity and yet none mention having to give them half the takings. Seems odd that none mention it at all.

Arthur.
Disagree by all means. But there is disagreeing and disagreeing. Try it in the less abrasive style. We’re discussing a ‘human interest’ story where some of the humans are motivated to do good deeds. The do not need to be crushed by your somewhat lofty dismissal.
John Green
Crushed? Really? I think you’re over-dramatizing it somewhat.
An extreme example perhaps,
Yes it is.
Taking it further, I am no apologist for Tesco but the original poster posted an unsubstantiated (and still is) rant against a company unlikely to be defended here. All I did and indeed ever said was that a) it is a storm in a teacup and b) it required verification before talk of bans and boycotts etc. If a blunt reply was forthcoming then perhaps it is a reflection on the original item. I have clearly offended Linc as he has chosen to ignore my posts – I’m sure he’ll get over it; I have.:)

Fair enough but sometimes the truth hurts doesn’t it.

The Daily Mail – a rag of the first order. Littlejohn an Philips write right-wing rabid rants full of half-truths designed to appeal to a particular section of society.
Always worth reading for comedy value though.
I’m afraid I am one of those who are not willing to accept things at face value. I am not by nature one of the “yes” men.
If you want to agree with everything you read on the internet then fair enough, that’s your choice – I don’t.
I always try and post in a polite and respectful way. What have I done to deserve your little dig?
I dared to disagree with the majority?
So, the bottom line, is this story true or not? A simple yes or no will suffice.
That was all I ever asked of this story.

“Tesco takes £23.59 for their own charity and fails to provide free tea for elderly couple“
Truly earth-shattering stuff.
Complete non-story – must have been very upsetting for the couple but I’m sure they’lll get over it.
According to Linc people will have been made aware of what charity they were donating to :-
I would state, that I can still pull the odd string, and a person in Tescos stated, they wanted the Wings appeal collecting boxes covered with a sticker relating to a Charity that Tescos support, and demanded be put on the collecting boxes, covering the Wings appeal logos
A bit apochryphal and as yet unverified I might add.

So what you really wanted was for us all to be outraged by Tesco’s behaviour despite that fact that the story was unverified by your own admission. Sorry to have disappointed you but I’ll get outraged if it turns out to be true. In fact, no I won’t because, let’s face it, it’s a bit of a non-story isn’t it?

Er… he did go-around and divert.
So why do think Tesco needs to provide tea to those who somehow seem to have been co-erced into standing in front of a shop for hours on end? Maybe the “good” citizens of wherever-it-was could have helped. Maybe a thermos flask next time?
Tescos seem to be an easy target despite overwhelming evidence of their charitable work worth many millions. Not bad for a “shabby” company.
If this story turns out to be true then I’ll personally boycott Tescos until Friday at least. That’ll teach them.
