You were the one that spoke about officers in this fashion,

they collect speeding fines quick enough off fully legal drivers

    not me.

For a start they can’t be “fully legal” if they are speeding can they? All motorists need to do is stop making themselves a “soft target”; it isn’t difficult.

Creating a health service that judges others on their lifestyle is fraught with danger.

If “legal” drivers obeyed the damned speed limits of which they are fully aware then perhaps it would free up officers to catch other criminals.

I’m still interested in this “line” where injury is self-inflicted. If a motorcyclist rides recklessly is he denied treament or dropped down the priority because it is self-inflicted? Or would he have to pay even though he may have paid his taxes all his life.
If a 50 year old goes on a booze bender and ends up in hospital would he have to pay as well, despite having already paid for his treatment many times over?
Much of what we do could be regarded as “self-inflicted” if you think that you have any control over your life.

If you fell ill with a smoking related disease should you pay for that? It was your choice to smoke wasn’t it? What about those that have car accidents or bike accidents – well that was their choice wasn’t it? Somebody that gets hurts bungee jumping or skydiving – that’s their choice as well.

As Skyhigh says, it is impossible to draw a line anywhere.

That would be a great idea and I think that some sort of heritage proposal is in the planning documentation for the future of the site. I don’t think it will involve the Vulcan though. I believe it is due to be scrapped fairly soon.

It is going to Prestwick. The wings have been scrapped but the rest has been retained. The fin and tailplane have been removed for transit.

Don’t the RAF still have the Sentry for AEW?

    I wonder if this true…..

You might want to invest in a second remote if you’re playing with others. Saves passing remotes around.

Fair enough – I wasn’t aware what they found on the inspection that made it into a non-event.

I’m just not sure how you dismiss it as a non-event just by looking at the video though.

Of course they would report it, they have to. Any potential damage or anything that could affect the airworthyness has to go into the tech log

Sounds like an event to me.
I would have thought that anything that requires reporting is an event. A TCAS RA, a heavy landing, lightning strike, bird strike etc – all reportable events I would have thought. Anything that may require further action really. It is probably trivial to the pilots but non-trivial to the engineers that had to carry out an inspection that may last many hours.

The fact that there were no problems is a testament to the design – it wasn’t always like that. To this day lightning strikes can cause problems if there is incorrect bonding or such like issues. Google a recent Lufthansa 737 incident to see what can happen. A Qantas 737 turned back the other day because of a lightning strike – they didn’t think it was a non-event.

I don’t think I said anything about control problems did I? I’m not dressing anything up, I’m only saying what has happened to me. If another operator wants to treat lightning strikes as non-events fair enough. We didn’t.

If this is a non-event then the pilots wouldn’t report it so nobody would know when an aircraft had been struck. The three times I’ve had lightning strikes in the aircraft I was in were far from non-events, damaged controls, static wicks blown off and blackened fuselage at the entry and/or exit points. All the aircraft I’ve been involved in had a post-strike inspection that had to be carried out – that makes it an event in my book.

While aircraft nowadays are designed to be safe if struck by lightning, I’m not sure I would describe it as a non-event. Certainly the lightning strikes I was involved in required post flight inspections, testing and repair work.

Lets hope their fuel tank inerting and wiring are OK.

And who is going to enforce these laws (which largely already exist) – is it the police whose numbers are being cut? On a recent trip to Scotland and back we saw one police car.

Maybe “undertaking” wouldn’t be a problem if drivers pulled over from the middle lane. Maybe pulling over wouldn’t be a problem if there weren’t so many speeders in the outside lanes such that it is difficult to pull out to pass.
In an effort to save fuel, I try and cruise at around 70mph but it is very frustrating when you get stuck in the inside lane or tailgated in the middle or outside lanes.
Another proposal that looks good for headlines but not much else.
