I watched it and it was rather sad and moving as they dealt with a fatal road accident and some old codgers who shouldn’t be anywhere near a car. Made Katie Price look like the trivial specimen that she is.

    30000???

That’s not even a quarter about what can achived… 120.000 is a standard

Really? Where is that from? I thought 30000 to 50000 was the norm.

I recently bought a second-hand Nikon D50 as a back-up to my D80. It takes the same type of Nikon lenses, uses SD cards and uses the same battery charger albeit different batteries. My D80 has done nearly 30000 shutter actuations and may peg out at any time.

£12? They having a laugh aren’t they? £3 and I would have thought about it. As usual they’ll be trying to milk it as much as possible as I don’t think the AVP is being run by enthusiasts any more. The consequence will be the surrounding roads will be chock-a-block.

I’ll park up at Sainsbury’s if they’re on 23 or take my daughter to Bruntwood Park 🙂

Presumably they’re trying to recoup the cost of the white elephant hangar.

Oh the airport by about 50 years. That doesn’t mean I can’t complain when they are being noisy neighbours though does it? The noise from the airport doesn’t bother me normally but there were several occasions when early morning engine runs were particularly annoying – and we live about 2.5nm from the engine running bay.

I complained about noise to Manchester airport once. Does that make me a NIMBY or a just a brassed off citizen? Engine-running a turboprop at 6am on a Sunday morning – honestly.

I was thinking of the Lords themselves who wanted a 100% appointed House , in direct opposition to the Commons who voted for other options. The Lords were unlikely to vote themselves out of business I suppose, regardless of what the elected Commons wanted.

Personally I don’t see the problem with an elected upper chamber, with elections kept separate from Commons elections maybe by having them in mid-term as they do in the USA.

Labour may have tried to reform the Lords but it is also Conservative party policy as well. We’ll see if they have more success.

Who said anything about political appointees starting in 1997?

    Err… you did.

    Here…..

Of course Labour’s obsession to do away with anything smacking of privilege, as they saw, it neutered and neutralised the Lords and the place is now stuffed with political appointees of little particular merit.

The last government tried to make a difference but ran into the usual obstacles from the vested interests – British democracy at work.

Did political appointees to the Lords only start in 1997? – oh hang on, when was Lord Archer appointed again? 1992 I think it was. Lord Ashcroft , I wonder why he was made a life peer?

So you think a second chamber should be selected by “vested interests” and have no recourse to the public – isn’t that part of the problem.

Most modern democracies have a second chamber to provide a moderating influence on the legislature – we should as well – only it should be elected by those whom it serves i.e. US.
