A second chamber, filled with Life Peers, elected on merit, to moderate an elected short-term government sounds like a good idea to me.

I don’t disagree with the idea of a second chamber but why shouldn’t it be elected by and accountable to the electorate?

I believe some sort of elected upper chamber is both Labour and Conservative policy. A non-elected upper chamber has no place in a modern democracy.

The fact that someone can go from serving drinks on a ship to deputy PM then a peerage is highly commendable. What is it about this country that we feel that everyone should know their place and stick to it – shouldn’t anyone try and better themselves?

from serving drinks on a ship to be being made a PEER is absolutely discusting,

I think we know what Lincoln 7 thinks of anyone trying to improve their lot.

Aircraft brakes and especially tyres get hot even taxying; especially at heavy all-up weights.

    Is that a Glass one?
Mine, the roof is opaque white plastic, triple layer stuff. 1.5″ thick. My South facing wall is solid Brick (It’s a boundary and I can’t put a window in it). It’s supposed to keep that sort of heat out.

We’ve gone over the top with the building regs, I’ve got 3 inches of foam in the South Wall, the stub walls that are under the windows and within the concrete floor. Interor walls are all Thermolites. This lot should also aid temp. regulation.
It’s a single pitch roof up against the house, the highest point (House) is about 9 foot, so it’s airy as well. I will put a thermostat in there and keep a watching brief, especially as we are expecting a scorcher of a summer. (The Frogspawn is in the middle (Over the deeper water hence last longer in a drought), the Frogs long term forecasting is better than the Met office). And I know the Spawn will be gone by Summer.

Come September, the Bold words will be used against me!

We have a glass roof and it is east facing so it gets the sun from morning until about 3pm. You might be OK with your arrangement. As long as it doesn’t get too bright to see the screen!

I’m not sure I’d put a telly in a conservatory. Our conservatory gets very hot in the summer (40-50°C).

PA1 and PA2 are currently outside at Woodford. The RAF wants to keep them as attrition replacements. BAE wanted to offer them as R.1 replacements. PA3was inserted into the production programme to replace PA12 which had corrosion problems. PA1 and PA2 are nowhere near productin standard, albeit nearer than an MR.2!
I agree that parking them at Kinloss where they might have been more useful would seemed more appropriate. I worked on the project for nearly 6 years so nothing would surprise me about the MRA4 programme.

The two at Woodford are currently being inhibited. Seems odd if they are going to be broken up.
