I don’t really understand the news story? Are they saying the UK is now only getting 8 MR4A’s instead of 9? I hope not this is a disater.
Or is it saying the MOD are going to have 11 MR4’s and one development aircraft is getting dumped?
I’ve got a nasty feeling its the first one.

The RAF are getting 9 MRA4 production aircraft. PA3 (ZJ517) was inserted into the production programme as corrosion was found on the MR2 airframe earmarked for conversion (PA12 XV246/ZJ525)
PA4 (ZJ514) was delivered to Warton last week to the transition programme. It will go to Kinloss in the summer I believe. PA5 (ZJ515) is currently being painted at Manchester airport. PA1 (ZJ516) and PA2 (ZJ518) are currently parked at Woodford.

So our armed forces are fighting for what again? Democracy? Freedom of speech? Except in this guy’s case obviously. You might not agree with what he says but he still has a right to say it.
What of the Forces Recruitment Services sending the e-mails to the Sun – not exactly the act of a professional organization was it?

    Patronizing to the last eh?.
What I don’t like in any post is inaccuracy and yours is full of it. You were the one that made the point about Woodford management – not me – and I was merely correcting your mistake – anyway talking to Heritage club is hardly likely to be an unbiased view. Maybe you should talk to actual employees rather retired ones who clearly have “issues” with Hatfield. The fact that a Hatfield product stopped the site from closing in the early 1990s will have passed them by no doubt.
As someone who has worked at both Hatfield and Woodford I might just know more about the management of the company than you do.

XM603 was left with bare wiring and with fuel on board. Those in the know believe it was accident waiting to happen. Again the Heritage club are unlikely to hold this point of view. If the Vulcan didn’t fit in with the company plans for the site why is it still here – anyone who wanted it could have it – the company held on to it so it could be used to assist XH558 in anyway it could. As an employee threatened with redundacy, a shareholder and a pension stake-holder, I would have been very annoyed if the company had provided large sums of money to fly XH558.

Still, you carry on believing what you want – we don’t want annoying stuff like facts getting the way.

    Chox,

The jack may be there as a result of the structural tests e.g stress jacking the wing.

Also, where did your assumption that the chaps there are mostly ex-Hatfield? That may be true of 20 years ago but not so now. Several rounds of redundancies and the closure of the civil manufacturing program sorted that out. 🙁

As for the dwindling number of Vulcans, how many museum examples have perished in the last 10/15 years? Not many. Their upkeep is down to us visiting and funding their preservation. XM603 never had that luxury. So let’s support the many good examples in museums and use 603’s parts to help them.

    Cheers.

I’m afraid that Chox is talking rubbish as usual, there are no ex-Hatfield management in charge at Woodford and haven’t been for some time – if ever. (As an ex-Hatfield person I find his comments insulting anyway). What is also forgotten is the support BAE have given to XH558.
As far as I can gather, the aircraft was left in a poor state and in this litigant society, BAE was not willing to take the chance on injuries or worse not happening.

There are 18 or 19 Vulcans preserved – not bad out of 130 odd made.

I’ll be sad to see it go – I’ve seen it every working day for the last 20 years but it has been deteriorating for a while now and is becoming an eyesore.

And we regard them as the epitome of evil. What does that make those advocating state sponsored murder of children?

The Delta flight was on approach to Detroit when the bomber attempted to set off his explosives. The cabin diff. pressure wouldn’t have been that high, if indeed there was any diff.pressure at all.

Is it not the fact that these cases are highlighted because they are unusual?

Tony Martin did his best to correct that failing amongst the local pikey kids and got chucked into prison for his pains.

    Moggy

He got “chucked into prison” for manslaughter. It wasn’t necessary to kill anyone. No-one has the right to mete out that sort of “justice”.

He hasn’t been acquitted (and rightly so) his sentence has been reduced. If we allow members of the public to beat offenders senseless in the street when they have ceased to be a threat, then we are heading rapidly to anarchy. Why did Mr Hussain call his brother first and not the police? Was revenge rather than justice uppermost in his mind? That’s is no way for a criminal justice system to work.
