If you compare which AF is better either FAF vs.RAF or Greece vs Turkey, there´s no problem. But, racist comments, totally out of the topic, as listed in previous posts is unacceptable.

“Interesting numbers–but notice how it only gives TOTAL sorties for France, but not combat sorties. In other words, half the French “sorties” probably involved ferrying French wine and cheese to French officers pretending to be serving the war effort in the region.

And notwithstanding the much larger number of French aircraft, total number of sorties is about 2/3 UK/France. Which to me suggests the French were shirking their duties, as usual.”

French AF used 45 combat jets in Kosovo (according to Janes http://www.janes.com/defence/news/kosovo/jdw990602_01_n.shtml) comprising MF1s, M2000D and C´s, Jaguars. Just three more than RAF used.

“the “mighty” RAF contributed a miserable tally of 12 Tornado and 23 harriers to the Kosovo war. of these the 7 sea harriers flew CAPs against the non-existent Serbian AF”
At that time RAF was also providing Tornados for Operations Southern and Northern Watch over Iraq (Jags are also involved there, right?). I think that´s the reason why so few Tornados were sent to Kosovo.

Millions spend in training this pilot, a dream for millions of people who wants to be one, but a reality for few including himself, and at the end…..all messed up. Sad
    Fortunately, a tragedy not happened.

Sapito, nice pics. Hope to see Mig-29 and Mirage 2000s at the end of the year, here in Brazil, for Cruzex military exercise.

“It is fairly superior. First because of almost twice as much power from its Spey, second because of the fact that L-159A only uses lightweight version of the FIAR Grifo normally fitted to Italian AMX. IIRC, FAB birds use some kind of Cassegrain type radar instread of the slotted Grifo, what is it and what are its specs?”

I agree. I never heard about this Cassegrain type radar. As far as I know, the radar choose either for the AMX as well as the F-5 is the Grifo in its full. The intention of the FAB is to put the fighter in much communality as possible.

“I have read exactly the same, that they want to them for LIFT role only. I remember that FAV only expressed interest in AMX-T which has won over L-159B ALCA. Since the L-159A attacker (equipped with FIAR Grifo-L) was not in contest at all, it is possible that they only want AMX-T without radars for LIFT role.”

I´m also think (personal opinion) that FAV will wait some more time to get the AMXs fully upgraded with the same kit applied to Brazilian AMXs which is superior comparing with the L-159A.

I didn´t saw Greece on that list and i´m think they have a pretty well equipped Armed Forces, at least on the paper.
    1 – France
    2 – UK
    3 – Germany
    4 – Italy
    5 – Grecce

Is “LIFT” role like COIN or close ground support? Thanks
LIFT is Lead In Fighter Training, but, i´m sure that they will use in other roles as well.

“Were those already delivered? I’ve never seen any picture of FAV AMX-T.”
Flex297, not at all, they have been in a strugle to maintain their budget and i think that could take a couple more years until the first aircraft will be delivered.
I think they will apply the same camo already in place in their fleet of fighters.

“……And the Italians used to call the AMX-1 F-36!!! Because it cost them 36 million per unit. They were not that pleased”

They were not happy due to a lot off accidentes that involved the fleet of Italian AMXs in which the Italian parliament start to investigate so many accidents in short space of time. But, you have to consider the outstanding performance of the AMX on the Balkans.
Since we have started operations with the jet, here in Brazil (1989), we only lost three examples. The pilots really enjoy the airplane, with its performance and range.
In fact, the nickname was F-32 instead of F-36 because of the 32 million euros per unit.
I don´t think that we cannot compare the Su-25 with the AMX, is a different category. But, comparing the upgraded AMX with the L-159, i think the AMX is better.
Aside from Brazil and Italy, the only country that brought the AMX was Venezuela, for LIFT role.

“I remember talking about C-17’s to a squadron mate and he said He wasn’t going to check-out in it because if there was any conflict they are the first to go!!! This was back in 2000, I told him,”Who will start a war with us?” How wrong I was!!! “
Yes, times have changed and i really hope that this situation could end rapidly and without more suffering for the american families.

    TTP,

Thanks very much for the info. I also read that the Air National Guard accepts former active duty military pilots from all branches of the US Armed forces which is different from the concept of the reserves, right?
When an ANG unit is called to war, then the owner is the President, interesting…….When you are calling to serve as an active duty pilot (in case of war) you receive a full time payment fron the Air Force or continue to get payment from the airline that you work for.
We can say that ANG/Reserves are much more experienced than regular military pilots. I think that you are anxious to fly the C-17…success
Sorry for so many questions, but, i always want to understand how ANG and reserves works.
The T-38 is like an F-5B. Brazilian Air Force operates for quite some time the B model, because, at the time of the purchase of the E model in 1975, no F model was available.

    TTP,

What´s the difference in being a pilot in the reserves and on Air National Guard? you mentioned that you fly the T-38, can you move to a fighter or not.
