    Not so many

I think that there are 10 or 12 A-37s operational in Peruvian AF.

A-37s are still flying a lot in South America. Peru, Uruguay,Ecuador, Chile still uses them operationally. Uruguay and Chile brought them to Brazil for Cruzex 2006. Peru cancelled its participation due to the accident.

    Explosion

The jet exploded soon after took off from the local airport, probably engine flameout, but both FAB and FAP officials are investigating. The jet fell to the ground from an altitude of 250ft, the crew died instantly.

    Only VF-31

All of former VF-213 Tomcats went either to Museums or AMARC and right now they are in process to conversion to Super Hornets (now VFA-213).

If the Tomcats from VF-31 will deploy again probably another Hornet or Super Hornet will fill the gap left by VF-213 (now VFA-213).

    He died later

I read today that he was not killed instantly, he died little later according to american troops that arrived in the area.

One thing is certain, he tasted his own poison which is, by the way, explosive 🙂

Bolivian AF flies the T-33 upgraded in Canada. It is the only jet fighter currently in service. Almost a decade ago they used the F-86 Sabre.

Paraguay AF has some T-33s but I think all remain grounded.

Definitely is not an F-15……look at the wings and the tail.

    Ja Worsley,

Hi mate. Just a correction, Paraguay operates and very small fleet of T-27s and AT-26s, both supplied by FAB. I think 05 for the first and 05 for the latter.
Some Paraguayan pilots had been trained on the F-5 here in Brazil as Taiwan had the intention to donate 12 jets to Paraguay (10 single and 02 two seaters). But this donation failed.

    Cheers

    Funds

The problem for South American Air Forces is the ever present lack of funds which postpones and even cancel many of its projects.

Colombia – They bought 25 Super Tucanos and according to an interview that I read with the Commander of the AF, they are preparing a study to replace both Kfirs and Mirages 5, but, they need to fit in their budget which is very tight. With the big help from the Americans (they have close ties because of the FARC/drugs issue), I would say that they will get former ANG F-16s.

Brazil – Recently we bought 09 F-5s from Saudi Arabia and the government is looking for 25 more examples. All of them will be upgraded to the current BR standard and more squadrons will be created in the amazon region. The Mirages 2000 will arrive on the second semester.

Interesting to say is that on August a third edition will of Cruzex will be held here in Brazil with the following nation:
    Brazil
    Argentina
    Chile
    Peru
    Venezuela
    Uruguay
    France

The dream for the air force generals is to get, in near future, the RAFALE. How knows……but France could bring some RAFALES for the exercise.
Also will be nice to see both Mig-29s and Mirages 2000 from Peru.
Regarding Chile, I don´t think they will have enough time to be operational on the Viper and bring them up here.

    Comments?

    Regards, A-29 (Tucanão) 🙂
