Oil will last longer than 4o years. The point is that the world has probably hit a peak in production with no really new massive oil fields coming on line any time soon, unless a new source can be found in Canada or Russia for example.
From now on, it looks like a slow but steady decline. The N.Sea is running out of oil and gas. Britain has to import more and more gas from outside.
