    5) In air superiority, no Su-27’s in the V-VS (just a couple squadrons in the PVO), just a couple squadrons of MiG-29’s. The WP’s air superiority fighters would be the MiG-23 with assist from the MiG-21’s, against over 500 F-15’s, 1,000 F-16’s, 450+ F-14’s, Tornados and, F-4 Phantoms

I think your NATO figures are somewhat generous without a rapid deployment from N.America. At that time around 100 F-15’s were deployed in Europe (a wing in Germany and a sqn in the Netherlands I think), F-14’s would have been kept bust keeping Badgers, Bears, Bisons and Backfires away from the JFK, Nimitz, Enterprise, etc. and 1,000 f-16’s seems generous, though I could be wrong.

Besides, F-16’s were without Sparrows or AMRAAM’s at this point giving them a disadvantage compared to MiG-23’s, at least in BVR terms.

Not sure the actual hanging i.e. Saddam falling through the trap door, was filmed. The immediate events leading up to and after this are on film and have been on the BBC and ITN this morning.

Well looks like Saddam has been handed over from the US to the Iraqi authorities and could well have his neck stretched on Saturday….

I’m in two minds on this one. I have no sympathy for Saddam as such. However, his execution could be akin to trying to put out a camp fire with paraffin. I hope to god that this does not make things worse in Iraq for all concerned…..:(

My choice would be the F4D (F-6) Skyray. A fantastic looking jet!!!

That said, I read that the F4D was the first USN jet capable of level supersonic flight….

I went through a similar thing in the 70’s with the Yorkshire Ripper, people were really worried about the whole thing……..my mum still says to this day her and my Aunt were followed by him one night when they were coming home from a night out, he struck later that night two streets from where we used to live.

Where did you used to live???

Here in Leeds, a freind of my eldest sister was found in a childrens playground. Just 16 years of age too…..:(

My sister also sys she was convinced she saw Sutcliffe across a street on night….I dread to think……

The deaths of these 5 women brings back many of the Ripper case memories. He had the whole of the North of England terrified, esp Yorkshire and also Greater Manchester.
