We have said that but the 20 is all about sneaking on attack mode and then egress fast discarding much of the stealth concerns for trading speed (relying on other means like ECM)
Also, it is possible that inertia momentum will be very favorable (à la Sukhoi) making it a good mover in post stall flight once equipped with powerful TV engines.
For now, the canard only would be detrimental.

I was not envisioning any serious air to air role for the T-X past that of checking airliners and maintain air presence in time of crisis. This is why I named that an Homeland security fighter, a plane tasked as a force multiplier in a 911 scenario.
It should be obvious also that you are not going to engage a large fleet of cruise missile with a Mach+ trainer (dash speed). There is a reason why sensor persistence and xMach missiles are the object of large procurement. An AlphaJet for example would have had a great deal of luck to catch any ALCM86 and those are now 40years old and not particularly stealthy as per today standards.
I love the Gripen and it has several real world advantages (purchase costs, operating costs, maintenance requirements, serviceability and STOL to name but five)
The Swedes seem to have been sensor-fusing before anybody thought of a buzz word for it
I’m even convinced that in a clean or minimum load configuration it will have some kinematic advantages
But in terms or load, range and persistence the E is still a light (or light-medium) fighter. So doesn’t address the same market or role as the big boys. It does do what it’s intended to do very well.
Radar set will be praised comparing to the Rafale in its present configuration.
Also a Gripen A or C can outmaneuver many aircraft.
For the E, I would like to remind the reader that it STILL doesn’t exist, hasn’t fly and wasn’t combat tested. It a long shot to before we will be able to have a rational comparison.
And by the way, personally I would drop it. Too long, too few or too far from core customer needs. Plenty of new things to build for the Swedish industry to settle on such residually imaginative design (airframe).

IRST are not all weather. And maybe one day the AIM9 will have a similar capability as the Mica has for the Rafale.
That way, no extra cost and with one single plugin you turn the plane into configuration.
The article says ‘such as the AMRAAM’. A larger missile would be a lot bigger so it would be even less likely it would carry 100 missiles, maybe 20 or something.

The penetrating tanker also won’t be the same size probably (fuel is less dense than a weapon).
