Thank you Freehand. The Su27 is definitively bigger.The difference in design are related to the decade separating both program. The 27 is an oustandish airframe but so is 15.

Eeh.. Why do you need more man power?
Even if Flanker has many stations, they only load one at the time.
it being larger, it still has the same number of system, as Gripen.

Only difference being two engine, but so has F/A-18 hornet.. and yak-130, the list goes on.

Actually stuff like Fly-By-Wire makes the Flanker less serviceable heavy, vs analoge control system.

Bigger means more parts and more complex problem. Think formation, logistic, assembly, quality control in regard to the increased complexity. This lead to lesser avaibiliy etc…

IMOHO, so far, it seems as if MD will take the budgets but may not pay much attention’s toward the requirements. By adhering to their own market idea (especially low alt penetration – something adamant if they want to have some coherences in their offer with the Rafale), they are taking a big chunk in BAe lead by forcing them to divest their efforts (and lead time) to the requirements. I have no idea of what are those but the video I mentioned earlier speaks to me in that direction.

Anybody that have draw a wing section under Catia, for example, will understand what I am talking about.
Their managements have a chronic addiction to nice and neat PR material. I do not see them committing themselves to such a farce unless the above mentioned lack of commitment or if they had already something hot in the oven. If that is, it is probably a long shot and will certainly not be compliant to the Kpp (read above).
