Western officials said the SA-22 system would be operated by Russian troops, rather than Syrians. The system was on its way to Syria but had not yet arrived.

Just some short comments to the above and the pasted posts of user i.e (that I did not read in the original form- so thx for re-posting):
– The first thing to take into account to understand the J20 config is the structural limitation that have impacted the design. It’s not an insult or anti-Chinese BS, Su had the very same problem. Hence the discarding of a central body design à la Tomcat (not me, the plane 😉 )
– No central body also equate a more A2G oriented design (higher internal volume)
– the droop on the intake is more probably the result of some RCS work. For the DSI, refer to a previous post of mine when the twin side opening with grids were first revealed.
– With a minimum of the pressure gradient pushed aft and, hence, a better impact on the overall result for extensive laminar bl (and some magic), the remodeling of the rear fuselage makes sense especially with the presence of the underwing canoe à la PakFa.
– The highly loaded wing with a delta (inherited from a necessary structural trade-off) suggest more a low alt high speed perf
– the Big canard positioned well frwd are there for a better margin of CG with different load-out in relaxed stability (a solution piped down to other designs).
– the big surface and no close coupled canard config tell us that low aoa for the canard was the goal. Avoiding dyn lift is the most probable anwser (what point to a matured R&D industry given the age of the the design). Big surfaces allow for rapid trim without deflection.
Last but not least – reader are encouraged to remain firmly seated before processing to the last sentence of this short expose – The conjugation of the last 5 points, tells me that in A2G config, the J20 is a sea skimmer at high speed hidden behind a shell of ionized sea particules drafted upward by the lift and beamed by the canoe…

Aero Vodochody To Challenge French Aircraft Tender
Aero decided to pitch its L-39NG in the competition, the company said in a Sept. 7 statement.
“Unfortunately, on discovering what it considers to be major problems with the structure and conduct of the competition, Aero has decided to request an official inquiry into the legality of the tender process,” the company said.
The criteria for a pre-selection draw on the Continuing Airworthiness regulations apply solely to civil aircraft builders but the competition is for military training aircraft, Aero said. The European Aviation Safety Agency sets the regulations.

The twelve Vikings will likely require new mission equipment and communications upgrades, with the acquisition a response to increased North Korean underwater activity in recent weeks external link. Boeing To Provide First Glimpse of T-X at closed door Conference
The company is bringing a T-X demonstrator trailer to the conference, held annually in National Harbor, Maryland. Boeing is partnering with Saab on the design.
The T-X trailer will be invite-only, and a Boeing official said there are no plans to display the design through models or artwork at the company’s booth — meaning the specifications of the plane remain a closely-guarded secret.
Boeing will also use the AFA conference to market a new configuration of its F-15 fighter.
The new design features 16 air-to-air weapons, doubling the number currently available on the jet. To accommodate the additional weaponry, the new design alters the location of the fuel tanks.

Airbus, UK MoD Deny Deal To Purchase Zephyr UAV

The madness of in-cabin baggage has to come to an halt.
With frequent delay due to weather and loss of time due to airport security, the iconic excuse of not loosing time at arrival is beyond any ridicule. Those are the age of Tartuffe for airline travel.
For the ViP cabin, overhead bin should be locked until (a safe) arrival and additional storage provided for small size hand-bags and flat suitcases that typically hold one person private items (laptop, documents etc..). For other travelers, no suitcase at all. Only hand bags, small back-packs and laptops.
You don’t need to save your last lot of shirts and ties in case of an emergency fire.
Sort and part, should be the way to go.
Now, regarding the engine fire, do we have any clue? The billowing smoke is really thick and grey.

The UK is purchasing a fleet of Zephyr high altitude UAVs from Airbus:
