Navy to Modify T-45 Training Jets for Improved Performance

ARLINGTON, Va. — A modification to the Navy’s T-45 Goshawk training jet is in the works at Boeing to improve the aircraft’s performance, especially in extreme operating regimes.
“The Engine Inlet Modification is being developed to improve engine performance at some edges of the envelope,” said Philip Paul, Boeing’s program manager for T-45/AV-8B Programs. “The T-45 performs many flight maneuvers similar to high performance fighter jets. Student pilots learn through exposure to these extreme operational regimes, which prepares them for these conditions that are outside of regular flight operations. The Engine Inlet Mod provides additional performance margin in these conditions that can stress airframe/engine integration.”
An engine inlet modification actually was tested on a T-45 years ago, but only now is coming into fruition as an engineering change for the entireT-45 fleet. The Navy’s Critical Design Review for the modification is expected “in the near future,” Paul said.
Interesting to note how the NAVY is also getting ready for the 35C by boosting the kinetic ability of its main trainer. Definitively, the G requirements on the T-X program are not there for the F22 or a 6th Gen 😉

With any aircraft having a conventional flight control system and digital avionics, obsolescence management is crucial to long-term sustainment. We will be using technology refreshments and leverage Boeing’s expertise to develop and implement a plan that keeps the T-45 a premier training platform for many more years, while ensuring the viability of the supply base.

Why are you searching so much when it’s perfectly logical. This was published by Air International and not in the Huffington Post. At least, they know what they are talking and not talking about. If it was about AoA, we will have read the word Angle of Attack.
And again, side slip with gigantic canted vertical tails and non afterburner usage in a twin engine airframe makes sens.
Course of travel refers generally to the trajectory. I don’t really see why it should be read otherwise here.

You’re confusing Post stall and sustained manoeuvre.
F35 max angle of attack (transient) is ~110°, something that put him in the same category of the Su27/35.
Max sustained AoA of original Su27 is inferior to that of an F15 Eagle (30+°). So 50% less than that of a F35 😉
Also do not be mistaken by Dynamic stall that for some Delta fighter can look spectacular (ex. Draken). Those are non controllable attitude in an already departed flight.

To close the debate around the F5 LEX, here is an illustration of the advantage of the formula applied on this design:

I think you fail to understand the concept behind it. Stealth lower the target aspect ratio against a background of emissions. Hence, a stealthy, non broadcasting IFF , has to “interrogate” a multitude of potential contact before knowing if it’s even an airborne object of interest. The only way to remain discreet while performing such action, is to do it by comparing known tracks and the monitored source of the signal at the fastest pace possible in order to find the nail in the haystack.
Two philosophy are matching such requirements. Analogical filtering is one of them that Jõ have shown here that is the subject of Russian R&D studies.
Fusion is the drive mean in that. Since a considerable number of calculation have to be made (think about the aspect ratio that change every time you alter even one single of the 6DoF) and due to the scarcity of the source signal (stealth), embedding your sensors into a single processing unit is of a matter of necessity.
Rafale have no built-in sensor fusion that we know aside of Spectra and OSF. Radar data are post processed. An unhappy heritage of the all passive frenzy. OSF has been deleted and replaced by Mica optics, what exclude fusion. TV sensor have sadly also not the range to act has a valid IFF interrogator (once you can see, even with the good sensibility of that sensor, you don’t need an IFF per def).
Hence, as you can guess, it’s not a matter of not researching enough a specific matter here. It’s all about collecting information, readily available to us, as here, and building by logic and intellectual honesty a representative picture of the subject.
