India is procuring 36 Rafale fighter jets from France’s Dassault Aviation in flyaway condition in a government-to-government deal.

Sources told the news agency the plane delivery schedule was on track and the Indian Air Force is expected to get the first aircraft in September 2019. The jets would be put to extensive testing by Indian pilots to evaluate the India-specific enhancements.

It also marks a shift from the so-called 1968 East of Suez strategy in which the U.K. withdrew from military bases in southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf, the minister told the paper.

“We have got to make it clear that that is a policy that has been ripped up and Britain is once again a global nation,” Williamson said.

The conversation was about Fusion not being limited to merged display. You are exactly proving that this is sadly the way Fusion can only be discussed for the Rafale today. I admire your patience for pasting something that was already put here before.

And Rafale had data fusion way before AESA…

It’s plausible that before the AESA went in and the IR were internals Rafale had some form of data fusion. The fact that the Rafale emits much more on the IR and radar band makes that “fusion” way less deeper than what you can expect on real stealth airframe like the 22 and 35 (see the line you didn’t bother to read).
Now that both sensors have been removed or replaced and are using commune interface it’s unlikely that this still does happen. This is only logical if you pay attention to the facts. And, once again Hallow, this was discussed publicly by the DGA (years after we put this on the discussion by the way).

So, unless you want to replay this discussion in loop for yourself (with again and again the same arguments), I would rather move frwd myself.

Let’s be honest, an order of several hundreds of Eagle today would probably meet a price well under $85 Million. You can’t compare apple and Banana. The point is that ordering 12 upgraded Eagles for the ANG isn’t certainly to meet the needs filled today by the Lightning.

It might be that on statistical ground this is justified
It might be to help F-15C/D recapitalization (many Eagles are cross breaded (airframe that swap more than one block) and a reference is needed for a fleet upgrade
It might be because SecDef is an ex-Boeing
Or it might be because the world is on the verge of spinning backward and the USAF want to out-beat the Navy…

Fusion here is understood as the merge of raw data acquisition tracks from various sensors to generate unique target opportunities. It is not the data fused on a multi functional display, what most user of upgraded 4th gen fighters have already. since the late 80’s (at various ergonomic level).
This is why I can say that on Rafale, it is dubious that you have fusion across the full range of sensor’s spectrum. Fusion is the correlation of time/space dependents data sourced across various spectrum that necessitate that all sensors are calibrated/integrated to an airframe that allows continuous signals sourcing across the full range of spectrum fed to their sensor while traveling at high speed.

Last but not least, as your airframe have to impair the least the signals sourced across Radio/Ir/Radar/whatever spectrum, you have to be discreet across all those band of signals*.

And it’s not only me, this was also the object of some remarks made public by the DGA.

*yeah, you’d better be stealth/IR-stealth/EMCOM stealth etc… Perhaps that where the AdlA jumped out of he wagon.
