Hi Jackonicko
the mod-center codes I have been discussing with Phil Marchese over on the ArmyAirForces.com Forum – especially as to the P-51C’s carrying such codes on the rudders. There we tried to bring a “pattern into the chaos”, i.e. trying to amass as much data as possible.
But I am sorry to say that there doesn’t exist a listing that links AAF-serials with mod-center codes.
Will see what I can find re. Liberators – (just moved, so everything is in boxes….)
Kind regards from Zurich / Switzerland

What air protection was afforded these islanders from Luftwaffe incursions from occupied Norway, anyone know?
Pierre Closterman tells in his book “The Big Show” of his deployment with No. 602 Sqdn “City of Glasgow” to the Orkneys (Skeabrae) and the hunting of high altitude recon planes over Scapa Flow, flying Spiftfire Mk VI.
IIRC there were Squadrons / Flights rotated to this area.

I have past 5 pm here in Zurich…..
Hi – clam doors opening during flight have caused torn wings and resulting aircraft losses – There were two losses of early P-51D’s from BAD-2 (Warton) in 1944 which were the result from a changed mechanism from the B/C-model to the D. If the cause for these crashes wouldn’t have been discovered soon, the D-models would have been grounded…..
I remember an article with the title “…and not a shot was fired” telling this story.
