Hi Howard,
Are the exhibitors packs being dispatched or are we picking them up on arrival?

Hi Kenski,
Indeed the thread is getting on a bit but, still going strong!
That was a very nice find (even though it was a few years ago!) You are quite right, there is not much chance of identifying an exact aircraft but, it looks from your pictures that it may be a ‘new old stock’ item and not actually fitted, judging by the ends of the cables. This too is unusual to find on most Vulcan grips as they more often than not get cut off! Valuation is tricky because these things are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay however, they have gone on e-bay up to about £800 to give a rough idea, starting prices are usually around the £200 mark (unless someone uses the free listing and starts at 99p) As for insurance, it is up to you. For a single item name it on your household insurance for a replacement value of £1000 to be on the safe side.
Much the same with a Lightning grip too, these are highly sought after by collectors but, they still appear from time to time and again if you get into a bidding war on e-bay it can start to get expensive. If you can get out to events/aerojumbles (cue T/O to appear with a plug) this is usually a much cheaper option. This forum may also bring fruitful results too.
Hope that helps?
Regards,
Martyn

SAAB Draken grip anyone ?

Bid now suitably applied! Although I’m waiting for the response re. postage.
J32 Lansen not Draken though!

Hi Rich,
Just spotted this 121641337893 on the bay of evil he/she has other GR3 items if you click his ‘other items’, any use??

GYD . I agree, for me the presentation of the grips are a bit too sterile and as you rightly state provenance is not well established. But hey ho one persons taste is not a reflection of another’s. Personally I would prefer a few knocks and dust on my yokes as if they have lived. Thought the site may interest some however, anyone got any other sites they wish to share ? I have linked others in previous post to this thread.
Replica grips and yokes wil become a worrying problem soon in years to come as they pass hands and the original provenance (i.e genuinely sold as a replica) gets long forgotten. Advancement in machinery and technology sometimes make these items hard to distinguish apart.
F.B,
That was exactly the point I was trying to make, a case of Cave et emptor! Buyer beware!
Just because the label says so, it is not always the case, especially with websites like that one. Although it is probably more down to their (lack of) specialist knowledge of the subject, they have seen a picture similar and put 2 and 2 together etc. etc.
I too prefer the ‘used’ and actually fitted to aircraft item but, I won’t turn away a brand new/old stock example if I don’t have one!!
Ian and I have swapped a couple of sites of late, I will try and find them again and post links later – unless Ian beats me to it!

P.S. I have something on the way to me which may be more to your collecting theme – will post upon receipt!!
F.B.
That is an interesting site and thanks for sharing however, do you not think it is but typical of a now commonly occurring ‘kitsch’ artistic shiny polished to death, put a picture of a phantom next to a grip and (as pointed out no prices indicated), make lots of dosh from the unwary ??! There is obviously a market for the nostalgic casual collector, as mounted ‘resin’ copies of grips are becoming more commonplace now too.
As mentioned before in earlier posts the US grips are very difficult to positively identify (especially the B5/6 series) and I will be very surprised if any of those Mustang, P40’s etc are actually from those types – unless of course there is some form of authentication supplied with each display and if that is the case, I stand humbly corrected and suitably told off for being a bah humbug!
Any schoolboy grip collector worth his salt will point out that the F4 grip does not have the lower wrist support, as the displays show, the only ‘real’ and actual positively, F4 for sure, are the three rear seat grips labelled as Phantom II.
A very professional and pleasing website none the less, it is indeed a pity no indication of prices tends to lead to the expensive but, I could be completely wrong!
Cheers,
Martyn

Mark,
Indeed, my grip has the same part and issue number too. I think the date on the plate is 1969 but the figure is etched rather than stamped and partly obscured by the screw fixing the plate to the grip!

XF940,
That is nice to know they are not handed, can you divulge the AC numbers as they can change with different mod states, it would be interesting to see if they concur with a column I have.
Interestingly, at Newark last weekend a lovely gentleman of some elegant seniority who actually made JP/Strikey sticks for HP in his youth, mentioned there was some minor variation regarding the pully’s/gearing/dimensions, on the two different columns for some reason but, that will probably only noticed by the likes of him, with the covers on, no one will notice!

Ian,
That’s a nice pair too! I didn’t know you had that ‘later’ Strikemaster grip, first one I’ve seen outside an actual aircraft and indeed, a pity some fool chopped it off in its prime! The Bell grip looks very interesting as well.
XF940, it is nice to get the ‘pair’ together, do the part numbers differ, may I ask?

What’s this one then folks?

Not a gear stick! U.S. B7 grip though, use hmmmm….working on it!

redhillwings,
There is a picture of the above mentioned ‘formation stick’ from swifters post on #82 of this thread!

JC,
AP129, Vol 1,Pt1, Sect5, Ch5 table 2, lists the MK2 H seat as fitted to the Hunter but, does not list a MK-2-HA-N !!

FP,
Have you tried using the e-bay ‘fraudulent listing’ tool on the ebay site, rather than trying to woo the vendor? (don’t try phoning their help line, that really will make you a bit irritated, a lot!!!) to at least notify them that this item is not exactly what it is purported to be.
I have done this several times to opportunist sellers that are ‘selling genuine’ war medals, that are so blatantly not to the more erudite and informed amongst their viewers. (A well known forumite got stung by a dodgy DFC a few years ago due to understandable ignorance/lack of knowledge of the subject).
The downside is they never tell you the outcome but, at least you can rest assured you have ‘done the right thing’ on a moral perspective.
