Hi redhillwings,

Here is a dodgy picture of my ‘cut down’ NAF 1173 as fitted to an early A-1 Skyraider, you will be able to see it in the flesh – so to speak as, it will be forming part of a ‘Grip/Yoke’ display at Cockpitfest, next month. Myself and a few of the contributors here are joining together to put on the display (if anyone else wishes too partake in the display too, drop me a P.M).

Pukka, definitely used on Whirlwind HAR 10 (2nd Pilot) – I have one that I personally removed from said beast!

Regards,

Hi Mike,

Indeed, it is a radar controller probably from an F86D Sabre but, it could also be from an F89 Scorpion, it being of similar vintage, it has one very similar to your picture, unfortunately the picture I have to hand is a bit too small to make out a positive i.d. but, no doubt a quick ‘google images’ search should come up with a better picture.

Note.

Re. the picture of the Harrier cockpit in http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261470294707?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 above, some buffoon has put the column in back to front! Rigger’s nightmare and Chiefy won’t be pleased! Pilot probably won’t notice :highly_amused:

Hi All,

My Father was on one of the first air tests/famils when the ‘Ten’ came to Brize Norton during the early 1960’s, he took this photo in the cockpit during his flight, if you look closely at the Mach meter, above the co-pilots left shoulder, you can just see the needle creeping over Mach 0.9!

Don’t forget the mighty TSR2 that was streaks ahead of any US or any other nation’s aircraft at the time and shelved partly due to a dodgy ‘bribe’ to buy the F111 instead but, that didn’t materialise either!

:eagerness:

Re 11

What are you on ?

Add the following:

The best bits of the Mustang inc. the name.
The first jet liner
The Canberra – you bought it
The Mosquito – you wanted to buy it
The Harrier – you bought it
The Spitfire – you bought it – reverse Lease Lend
The Lanc. – you should have bought it. It was streets in front of the B.17
British supersonic? We needed only one and you still haven’t been able to match its performance !

Here’s a few other items that helped you along the way:

Cavity magnetron
Angled flight deck
Steam catapults
Ultra
Atomic knowhow – so you could build not only the bomb but your first nuclear reactor – after the British !
Ship convoys – it took two years to convince that dolt Admiral King

That’ll do to be going on.

Hi AM

No 2 Looks like Buccaneer to me. Not sure if there is any difference between Mk1 & Mk2 though, just the grips themselves.

Is it me, or is anyone else having problems searching for items on the ‘new’ e-bay search tool and getting the response ‘nothing matching your description’ even though you’ve picked one of their headings??

That’s a nice find Ian and good luck in tracking down the missing fittings!

For your info, the Mk3 seat table in AP129 states that the PSP fitted is a ‘Type R’ with a Mk 9 back type parachute and a ‘ZF’ harness, differences noted between this Mk and earlier seats:

‘Seat raising handle hinged, telescopic 80ft/sec ejection gun, cord leg restraint, emergency oxygen can be selected from either pilot’s seat. The action of the canopy jettisoning removes the safety pin from the ejection seat blind’.

Based on the P-38? Looks more akin to a P-61! The similarities of the two designs are both evident but, was there any collusion between Northrop and Lockheed to produce the latter? Nice link and pictures though.

Funny you should mention the Vigilante Ian, literally just looked at a picture of one searching for the above! I have this, just need the ‘rude’ bit!!

The sockets seem much rarer than B8s Tony, there was a shop in the states doing them for £20 each, as well as unissued FJ4 grips like Martyn’s for little. I bought (and used) a couple of connectors and the week I emailed an order for a grip they folded. Sod’s law. That was a good price for the Seaking grip, too.
You’re right in the US Navy having some more interesting shapes Martyn, the Vigilante is one I’d like, along with a Crusader tandem double grip. Now they do look rude.
The A4 grip was from the States Tony, part of a grandfather’s collection being returned to the wild. He was thankfully a demon for labels by the look of it, everything well identified!

Hi Tony,

Hopefully, should be speaking to WOS on Saturday – did send an e-mail but he is still yet to reply! I’m up for as many who wish to contribute really, space and location will be the key, hence speaking with Bill first. I’m sure a wide range of era/types should make a quirky and hopefully interesting display.

yep, looked Sea King to me too TonyT. Another bargain!

Martyn, nice collection there!!!! Any ideas what we will do at Fest? Gokone may wish to join in as may others?

Hi Tony,

I think I might still have a couple of the adapters but, without the bezel that screws the two bits together, if that’s any use? Are you visiting NAM this Saturday?

Martyn

GYD

So anyone know where I can get a male plug so I can mount my sabre stick onto a base?

Btw just bought another one, still waiting delivery, advertised as possibly a Wessex item, but looks like a Sea King item to me
