doesn’t discount the fact that they can be carried, and given how third world operators cannot find replacements for their MiGs, its mightly likely they have been upgrading to R-77s.

I was once talking to a retired USAF technician and he told me that even F-15s don’t have a higher than 1 TWR when fully fueled. That all the flashy flying one sees are never with fuel tanks fully filled. The J-10 may not need a thrust to weight ratio of 1 at take off but rather so after reaching 15000 at which point it would have lost at least 10-15% of its fuel..

    Hope this helps.

with present generation manpads no matter what you put in it, something that size will come down.

on a different note, the difference between flex and sea”lord”lawrence is the difference between someone who can stand up to dehumanization of others and one who will tacitly collude in his silence. Sadly, the result was to brand flex a “jihadi”.

It is a crime to dehumanize someone else. It is a bigger crime to talk of it as casual and commonplace. Because by doing so you tacitly collude in that crime. sea”lord”lawrence commited the latter crime and not the first, and flex merely acknowledged that. However, the immediate reaction was “there you go, it wasn’t that hard after all.” Which frankly, reflects on the mental capacity of the person in question.

“The LCA project, launched in 1983, is still in the doldrums: the DRDO has failed to develop the right engine for it. Even with an imported engine, the plane is unlikely to enter service anytime soon.

I’d like to speculate that the FC-1 is actually being developed to replace the Q-5 rather than anything else.. 🙂

I wish we had some hard data rather than just photos. Concerning the twin tail – I recall that the F-16C had a larger vertical tail – one option to get the same effect would be to have two vertical fins. I can’t see any other explanation for this. And of course, as arthur points out, this would help with balancing the additional weight in the nose. Last but not the least, could help in flying slower because of the greater stability.

Anybody who has studied aerodynamics knows that there is an inevitable payoff matrix between stealth and agility. To say otherwise only shows how blindly patriotic some people are.

    Speculate

Okay lets speculate then> PLA-MKII’s Speculative Specs:

    1. WS-13 derived engines
    2. AESA radar
    3. Internally carrying 2 SD-10 AAMs
    4. Not Stealth but “stealthy” RCS of < 0.25
    5. New computer controlled anti AMRAAM gun that spits uranium depleted needles 😀
    6. “Sting” at the back which unlike the Mig-29 stings that were radars, would be a “radar signature replicator” – on launch would quickly replicate the rcs of the J-10
    7. The most powerful IRST possible, giving the J-10 the ability to detect F-22s withing 60miles

    8. a next generation of integration of radars “netcentrtic radars” that link up and simulaneously detect stealth aircaft from multiple deflections.

    9. Revolutionary new cockpit where the pilot is in a “superman flying” position rather than sitting and the ejection capsule shooting sideways rather than up.

    10. No need for a 360 degree view bubble canopy – mount cameras to give the pilot a 360 degree view. Much more aerodynamically efficient and stealthy.

    11. Paint em all black. Green glowing lights inside. Lets find new ways of looking at “deterence” 😀

Apparently its not enough that the indian “lobby” here that has managed to get most of the Pakistani posters out of keymag now is fully targetting other posters . Golden dragen has been one of the best posters on keymag and it is shameful to see how all the indians with western nicks coming here to insult him. The leve l of these ppl can be clearly seen in the kind of language they use.
