Perhaps the 109 will be non-airworthy running condition? Engine able to run and all equipment installed.
Great salvage!! Indeed good to see that people just do it, I read that the whole salvage operation had cost 250,000 Norwegian kroner.

There are plans in Nigeria to ban MD-80-aircraft as a result of the crash.
Regards
That happened also with the BAC 1-11, after an incident in 2002 all 1-11s were banned from Nigerian airspace. You still can find quite a lot of 1-11s standing in a corner of the airfield were they were when the ban started.
IIRC there is also a regulation that aircrafts flying in Nigeria should not be older that 22 years. Anyone knows more about that?

Mathieu.
I think the two regions of the world in which I would never fly domestic airlines are Africa and Russia. The air safety records are truly shocking – Africa especially.
Hi,
I have been flying a lot in Nigeria, we normaly used Aero contractors. This company has a realy good safety record, in 62 years of operation “only” 2 people died while flying with this company. A few years ago a new company was started named Arik Air which seems to have a good safety system in operation. Is sounds a bit strange, but also in Nigeria flying is the safest ( hope I spell it right) way of traveling even when using one of the other domestic airliners.

Hi,
What is the size of the tire? Possibly this rims were used on the Fokker G.1. But I’ve to check the manual before I know for sure.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for your reply. No idea if Lent was the pilot who downed this halifax but a photo of him was together with the photos of the wreck. I hesitate to post a link because there are also several photos of the bodies of the killed crewmembers. The photos shows clearly that the halifax crashed on a beach, text with the photos indicated that it is possible that it was the island vlieland.

Mathieu.
Hi,
From what I understand the number of people visiting the museum wasn’t to bad, but companies keeping meetings/celebrations reduced considerably the recent years. I doubt that there present location is a major problem. Like other people already wrote, at Lelystad they are able to fly with there aircraft. Many people mention that you have to pay for the parking of your car, but that was the same at Schiphol.
Lets hope everything get back to normal!

Mathieu.

If the Fokker is a no-go, the Hamdpen is a very good candidate.
What do you think?
Cees
The Fokker is a go:cool:, but there is another interesting candidate. As far I know all the drawings still exist, smaller in size than the Halifax and flew for both, The Netherlands and England. Unfortunately this aircraft and its brave crewmembers are largely forgotten. A cockpit project of this aircraft could change that a little, I am talking about the:
Glenn Martin B 10!
Regards,
Mathieu.
What’s the next project?.
Fokker T.V:cool:
Hi Cees,
See you are still making nice progress! Did you know about this cockpit project: http://www.nederlandseluchtvaart.nl/forums/f20-projecten-projects/fm-2-wildcat-cockpit-17874/ ?

Hi,
Very interesting thread! Is it known were the grave is of this unkown pilot?
There have been 2 cases in the Netherlands were 2 people who died during the war were identified by DNA. One was a soldier which died during the battle of the Grebbeberg in May 1940, he had a grave but not untill last year he was identified and got a new funeral with full militairy honours. The second one was a man who was killed by the resitance and burried in a field. One of the man involved the killing told last year the story, after that the remains of the man were found and with the help of DNA the identity was confirmed.
In the case of this pilot we there a sugestions who it might be, perhaps relatives might ask the authorities for a DNA test of the remains.
Should be great if this pilot gets finaly his identity back.

Mathieu.
Hi,
Thanks for your replies! I’ll try to find a good photo of the Albemarle. The dimension of the glass is 32cm (12.6″) X 27,5cm
(10,8″).
Best regards,
Mathieu.
