Went to goa once, that was a pretty horrid airport.
It interesting anyway, The Kentish Airports of Manston and Lydd have always had a chequered history, at least they have not been forgotten
No way could LPL sustain NYC or MCO!? The runway isn’t long enought atm. An EZY 737 in April used 3/4 of the runway, and that was only going to BCN! Also with VS adding an extra 747 sevice on the MAN-MCO route in the autumm, they would struggle, and with pleny of competition on the MAN-NYC route, i don’t think they could sustain a profitable route.
I have heard a few rumours about a Liverpool-New York route, I think it would only work if one of the U.S carriers going into Manchester switched to LPL, Continental has been talked about. I think the runway would be ok, as its longer than Birmingham, and there are a fe translantics from there, also Monarch flew LPL-MCO before for Direct Holidays, it went for a season, but it was the time when Laker re-started flight to the UK and there was so much over capacity. i think also Direct Holidays desided it tied up their 757 too long. This would be the sort of aircraft to use on a LPL-NYC if it was to happen.
From Liverpool, I would like to see some competition on the Dublin run. Only FR at moment and times are not great. Aberdeen has been served in the past and would be good, also Brussels, maybe with VLM and Prague and Rome and Venice maybe for Easyjet. An LHR link would be good but unlikely.
The pic of this Tristar looks like the series 500, does anyone know if thats the case??
I know IOM-LPL is the busiest link to the Island, however Emerald will be competing with Euromanx on the same route using ATRs
I’ve seen the web-site and read a rew reports on the web, but nothing concrete as yet. Wont hold my breath.
Latest thing out of Liverpool is Emerald going back to passenger service on LPL-IOM route again. They are competing against Euromanx. VLM’s LPL-LCY service seems to have been well received.
I always liked the sort of rounded triangle windows they had, its seemed a very curvy plain, no sharp angles
Yuk !! not good for a full-service airline !! I flew on VLM last weekend LPL-LCY-LPL very nice service and snack on board good
i flew on one once years ago when i was a kid from Heathrow to Split with JAT
When i say second base, i meant second to be set up after Luton.
I also read in the last issue or Airlinerworld that Astraeus will operate a 737-700 later this year from the UK to Deer Lake in Newfoundland Canada. I was interested in reading about the bmi story, some interesting links maybe developed. I’d like to see a Liverpool-New York, there is quite a bit of tourist interest from NYC to Liverpool with the Beatles, maritime links etc, the cities also has some sort of twining. however i dont expect it to happen as there are too many service already from MAN
Liverpool was Easyjet second base, it started with two routes in 1998 14 flights per week to Amsterdam and Nice no based aircrfat. The following year 4 aircraft were bases and 96 departures a week. They now has 13 routes, 8 based aircraft and 195 departures a week. LPL is very much Easyjetville, with 737-300/700, I guess it time this will change to A319s.
Funny how you take something for granted then they are no-more ! First time I flew in a 1-11 was Gatwick to Girona with B.Cal, I also flew on one from Luton to Basel with Court Lines, several BA ones out of MAN and Ryanair from Liverpool to Dublin.
I can remember at one time the Ryanair BAC 1-11 was the most regular jet we saw at Liverpool after BD pulled off the LHR service. There are many more jets using Liverpool these days, but none are 1-11s anymore, sad really.
With all the regional jet operating today CRJ etc its a pity that BAe missed that with. Maybe with an upgrade 1-11 they would have been succesfull. I think the 146 was an expensive plane to operate with having four engines.
Closest airport is Liverpool, 737s are the most common aircraft there. Followed by Manchester Airport, I wouldnt like to say, Embraer maybe ??
