Tim, you are welcome to view/measure my set Master pedestal etc.
Peter Wood was interested in Master/Martinet at one stage too.
This is an international forum and is supposed to be just a bit of fun. There are lots of people on him, most hiding behind forum names. It is sad when people generalise and say its all the pom’s, yank’s, Oz’s or whatever’s fault.
I come here for a discussion and a bit of fun. I respect other’s opinions….some may be ill-informed, but I would question, not say ‘what have you done’ ‘what have you flown?’.
A league table of your experience is interesting, but does not make you necessarily a nice person – nor does it say that your opinion is any better than any one else’s.
As a cleverer person than I said…’I am the world’s leading expert in my opinion!’
I suppose what I am trying to say is ‘play nicely’.
This thread has meandered way off track from the OPs intent: It is a lovely aeroplane
CD, alot of NOS F86 grips were sold by Staravia about 20 years ago, so it might be one of them.
Pagen, those, and my grips have been seen enough here I think!
I guess I can be a little pedantic when it comes to grips, sorry. The lineage (Nimrod MR2 to Comet) is certainly there. As is the MRA4…..I looked long and hard at the MRA4 grip but cannot justify the cost vs historic side….besides, I paid way too much for my MR2 and R1 complete columns.
I do need to find a Comet yoke….used to have one…..at the height of my collection (prior to the dreaded D), I had a ridiculous number of grips.
Concur Mike, an aircraft does not have to have ‘perfect’ HQs to be fun flying….a bit like a car…..I drive a Messerschmitt KR200….it is not easy to drive, quite uncomfortable but great fun.
I have learned more about that aircraft and its achievements than I would have otherwise known. The fact that others are pointing out HQs that may not perfect is not dissing this aircraft.
So old chap, let’s get this right…..you think that only a pilot has the right to describe the handling qualities of an aircraft type? Even if it is factual/well known? So a handling qualities expert/SME can only be a pilot? If so, have I wasted the last 25 years being a flight test engineer?
nice stuff one and all.
Pagen, early Nimrod protos had the comet yoke. The MR2 yoke is nothing like a comet really….though the rest of the column is.
I have the tail of the burner, a lump of the radome from the other one complete with the zaps other teams put on it…..you can see pix of it taxying out with those zaps….and a few other small parts.
No. of props is optimised based on several factors. Sure you need hp to drive it and there is an optimal tip speed….then you have the issue of blades chopping thru the previous blades flow…..same is true for helios……you could write books about it….some have!!!
I am pretty sure it is Blenheim now as it matches the one in the Dux aircraft. It is interesting how it fits a diagonal cockpit tube (near eyebrow/windscreen) so it would need to be ‘skewed’ to allow the pilot to view it and see a ring not an ellipse.
I need to ration myself on Ebay lol!!!!
Dave, we are hoping to do a Harrier celebration day, where we would offer close access to the SHAR, talks on the Harrier, maybe a famous TP might come over, photo access.
Hoping to do several particularly themed days as it were
If you think 4 blader Spits are odd, I can remember visiting the BBMF in the 80s and LF363 was sporting a four bladed prop. She did not have it on for long. I had not noticed when I was sat in her cockpit, until DP came and asked me if I had noticed anything odd.
Surprised Air Ministry has not bounded this way yet! Where are you Alan!?
But what would you have us do Mike? It was toasty, we reskinned much of it, totally volunteer funded. We were keen to reflect its heritage and had a Falklands anniversary to honour – ergo the colour scheme. Not the first FA2 to wear an FRS1 colour scheme or similar. Please note it has been to at least two FAA Yeovilton airshows (by invitation).
Maybe those who would throw derision could do better and paint their FA2s ‘properly’?!
LERX on FA2?!
cannot chase everything sadly!
