i Have TB863’s clipped wing tip in my collection…..I remember Julian (who is on this site!) went to see Bill and the Spit in Southend in the early 80s. He came back with some spit stuff for his project and a nice Hurri column. I photographed TB863 just after she was bought by Stephen Grey and moved to Booker and PPS. His MkIX was just finishing her restoration there.
Seeing Mk12’s post….must have been 1979/80 when Ju went to Southend

Cool stories
I love bringing back stuff. In the 90s I cam back from Arizona with 14 x control wheels! A chap I know had a P47 complete windscreen (with quarterlights), dreamt of bringing one back for years – I brought it back last year.
The biggest thing I brought back was a DH4 prop – 7 ft long (missing part of one tip) – that nice Mr Branston let me bring it back for free!
As long as it is old enuff there is no problem.
I am thinking of bringing a display of windows etc to CockpitFest this year as I have quite a few.
No other history sadly….brought back a few toys….B747 yoke (with history), P51 grip, P51 gunsight mount, P51 brake pedal servo, P51 fuel cap, yatta yatta, B17 O.5 handles, Catalina trim unit….etc
came from a bunch of parts from WW2 B29s that were reworked for the Korean War. I love the B29 bowl so found such a big box, it would not fit in the xray machine! The TSA guy pulled the box apart to check it out.
i have a case from a hurri that fell in Deal during a dogfight – with a lovely handwritten note!
They had so many accidents with barrage balloons that a flight was formed to specifically fly into cables to try and improve survability. I have a cable cutter (made by Martin from Martin Baker fame) – Lanc S for Sugar at Hendon has them fitted
He provided turrets for replication
mine would be solid so quite heavy – would that be a problem? I suppose I could try and do gel coat ones
Terry Arlow used to do em
if I do some they will be at just over cost….would need to source the mirror bit – bowl is easy. Stalks required too
