My understanding was that it was a ‘pattern’ aircraft.

I am sure I have seen a CCF built aircraft plate which was dull….i.e….nothing of excitement!
I remember Geoff Rodwell told me years ago that he had never seen a makers plate – he had lots of CCF experience. I will have a look in my files

Aha, a chance for me to bore you with another spade grip story!…..this is a harvard spade grip too….before the Canadian version of the AH2242 (for applications that did not need a brake lever – i.e toe operated brakes), they used AH2040s. These were stored separate of the brake lever and catch/post.
Therefore you could get a AH2040 with a Bowden cable guide – that you would fit a brake lever/catch post etc for Swordfish and Hurricanes.
Or you could use as it is for Harvard. Later, they shaved off the cable guide from the 2040 (presumably because they only had Harvards).

So the grip is Canadian built Harvard….voila….
