I tend not to post pictures of my cockpits here (unless it is to aid someones request or project) – often there are side remarks about ‘not another spitfire post etc!’. Besides, I dont want others to think i am blowing my own trumpet. The WW2 forum is where people like Geedee and I can share detail shots and projects with modellers.

I love cockpitfest to death and have been and displayed at every one with my stuff. I realised a long time ago that Jet cockpits are more glamourous and have the bigger fan base there than WW2 and the hangar displays – which is fine.

On a more interesting note, my daughters are looking at putting a CD or photo book together of CockpitFest through the years.

If anyone is interested, has pictures, ideas or participant lists that would be great.

Yep both themes were my fault – idiot that I am – they were not even supposed to be themes – just gathering like cockpits in one area of the display site. You would have thought that after the flak I got for the Hunter gathering I would have seen sense and not suggested Warbird Alley!! But some never learn.

The coverage on some websites tends to suggest that Jets are the most popular (others are not shown). My suggestion for this year was to try and show jet fans that there are other eras and cockpits out there.

That said, our little patch of warbirds (Gary’s Stang, Dan and bro’s P63, Naylan’s Tempest and Tyffie and my offering) did attract lots of public who seemed to like them.

I wont, publically, suggest a sub theme again. But if anyone wants to park a cockpit near me then that is great!!! mind you, after this post, I will probably be placed behind the loos on the showground!!

I think this year it was about collecting ww2 cockpits and displays together, as “Warbird alley”, previous years there has been “Hunter gatherings” and other themes, anniversaries of the type or conflicts they were involved with, etc, and they worked fine.

Problem seems to be very few ww2 cockpits, if you had as many as there are Hunters or Canberras, weight of numbers would carry it through, many more cockpit owners and displays (re-enactors) were invited, but the demise of the Warbird alley theme certainly put some off attending; it was a shame not to see R Marleys typhoon this year, (although I couldn’t say why he didn’t attend).

A few shots from me showing maybe different views. The Hunter was one of my favs on its little trolley. Ken Ellis ‘wore’ Geedee’s legs when sat in the Mustang.
