I will be picking up some more flexello castors in the next 2 weeks. I will get spares but cannot hold too many in stock as it were.
Andy, on my two current licences (one been going 5 years+ one 2years plus, obviously with renewals), I was asked to contact the local County Archaeologist to ensure we were not endangering any pre-WW2 archaeological sites. Each time, I provided a comprehensive project definition and execution plan (which they did ask for). I understood that it was not a formal requirement but wanted to make sure I carried everyone with me and kept all parties happy. I did say that we wanted to start digging asap so that they would not take too much time. In each case, everybody has been very helpful (MoD, Landowner, County Archaeologist etc). For the older dig, MoD representatives came along to the first day’s activities.
Both digs have and will take time to complete as we aim to tell the whole story as it were.
I am surprised Snoopy did not take you up on the book offer…I would have!!
We flew over you in my Bro’s Vans Rv6 (out of Little Gransden…..looked jolly quiet at Dux)
I have a motley collection of bottle jacks, trolley jacks and ‘horses for courses’!!
We moved a Merlin a couple of weeks ago and the castors that someone had fitted were fine for a TV stand….snapped off but I have 4 x flexello wheels on a dolly trolley that ‘saved’ the day.
The WW2 cockpits are moved on all sorts from standard car trailers to a luton with a tail lift….I must sort some pix out as this is quite a ‘fun’ thread!!
It is a funny old world….in my 30 years in active aircraft preservation, I have seen many views presented…..people have the right to privacy…indeed…however, we are only caretakers for these projects at the end of the day. I dare say that after I depart my mortal coil someone may well make one of my projects fly again….most likely the Mustang…I can understand privacy. I was delighted to be totally surprised by the Sturmovik flying.
Some views I have been subjected to have raised my eyebrows….one told me I was wasting my time and money and should instead give my money to a more worthwhile project! (like the Vulcan).
As in all life, there are good and bad spotters. I am all for live and let live.
I do lots of shows and some people only want the number, not interested in what it is or its history….that is their perogative. The Spit V did cause confusion because it had 3 spit numbers on it to remind me there those parts came from.
Geedee, his son and I went on an organised tour of Oshkosh a few years back, we were the only non spotters in the party of 40. They were surprised when we said we were photographing aircraft and not collecting numbers.
I have seen bad things, like a friend waking one morning to find several people rummaging thru his land to spot his cockpits….
Although it is not for me, I see no harm….indeed, spotters have helped me identify aircraft I photographed at some shows (after the event when my photos did not help).
Aviation is a cracking hobby and very wide….lots of room for all.
Happy Christmas and New Year to all…
i can understand the need for secrecy by some…..often values may go up if someone knows you might have money.
The thing i don’t like is the type of posts we get here sometimes….you know the ones….’I know something you don’t’…..’but I wont tell you’…..wish they would just keep it to themselves.
It would be nice to do….I have never been to the helio museum….amazing really, the closest I got was when we took a Puma into WIPL a few years back!
I think it would be a good venue. It would be better to pick a new name though….There a few chaps around you, who if cajoled could make it great (Ruskin, XF940, Mark Gauntlett et moi and possible related displays from the Welsh boys! Graham too?)
That plus gold to counter/reduce effects of EMP possibly
Yes, but what is the definitive document? An AP or a Maker’s document lol!!!!!!!
The maker’s document was produced in response to the AM’s contract!! But do they know or they do know their product best (allegedly!)?
I once had to find the definitive definition of CVS (as in the carrier….and NO this not an invitation to thread drift!!) – it varied between people’s recollections and several APs with different definitions….put simply, it may not be so easy to distinguish the correct vernacular (sp – please forgive any misuse JDK!!)….you could find two official documents with different formats.
Something around 80mm diameter (like Smirky said 6A/5534 -4 to +8) as illustrated in Versuch’s lovely collection….but if I cannot, one to fit the gap would be great Peter!!!
Still needed
Congrats old chap!
They are standard swivel or fixed Flexello wheels….they have 3 and 4inch diameter ones.
I will go and make sure they have some first – if anyone is serious, I will buy some….just dont want to have loads spare – otherwise I will need to get more cockpits lol.
To give some idea, I have used 4 on a Hunter cockpit, 6 on the swift, 4 on the Hurri and Merlin engine standards
