I liked to echo the other comments, it was a fantastic weekend as usual. It was my 12th attendance and ranks up amongst the best. There were many highlights, both cockpit and flying (the latter involved lovely flypasts by the Lanc and the amazing Spit arrival…many thanx BBMF, you are solid gold). Thanx also to the wonderful team at NAM (though I did not get my blend, or indeed Bill in a dress!! Though I did prove he was a techno-dinosaur as he is oblivious to this Forum). It would be rotten to single out cockpits, but hey, I will….my favs were Redhill’s Cobra and Anon’s Toom which did somewhat dominate. (Regarding the latter, I did smile and remember Ray.) There were also many others growing since last year (Naylan’s Tempest and Roger’s Tyffie). The displays were good too, well impressed with the TSR2 display (Trevor), the aircrew equipment and the Harwell trainer (which I think is fantastic) Ken was Ken! There were some nice aeroboot stalls. The beef and hog roast was brilliant too. Well, bed time beckons…..I will post some pix and a vid of the Lanc on Youtube.

On a side note, if the fire was so slow moving, if only the crew taxied over to road….

Just a reminder for all that this fantastic event in on!!

Here are a few cockpits that sadly wont be there….I photographed them earlier this week when I was in Philly and Arizona!! Some are probably available though – there were 2 beautiful F86 cockpits! May be I will get one to the next fest or after?!

Exactly right, they were sold/struck off MoD inventory so the serial is no longer valid. Therefore the other airworthiness facets of operating an MoD aircraft go to (i.e. the equivalent of the limitations and airworthiness doc). The Form 700 would give an airworthiness trail to contribute to satisfy the N ticket/reg.

The gun button outer would have been almost pure aluminum and (unless the aircraft burned) should have survived. Aluminum is very reactive, however, relies on its aluminum oxide coat to protect it, an alloy diminishes the protection afforded and hence corrosion. Team it up with magnesium (as in the spade grip) and voila it corrodes away.

Lovely finds, I am so jealous!
