Had a good day digging out stuff and pricing it for the AJ!! Can’t wait! It will be the first time in many years that my stall will have nice stuff and not look like a magazine stall!!
I actually will have lots for then and also Popham and stuff to spare for CockpitFest! Some is too big and will wrench the heart strings to let go…sadly…..
The one silver lining will be the ability to channel money to other projects.

I had quite a few chats with several sources. One engine powered the rotor tower, the other to a local ATC unit the scrap. Some remains are reputed to be buring on site and I think that is likely…the conitdition may be pretty poor!

Any help so I can get a panel done by CockpitFest would be nice!!

Right guys a challenge I know you love them.

I am gathering information together on the “alledged” burial of the Whirlwind Hack to approach Westlands.

I have so far two different dates and two different explanations to the end of this aircraft.

One says she was broken up in either 1946 or 1947

One says she was dismantled then used for practice on the fire dump in either 1946 or 1947 both then say she was buried on the airfield perimeter.

I have been getting feed back that is very sceptical of the above does anyone have any further information documents articles etc to back up any of this so we can pursue the matter further.

Dont want to look very daft get permission to dig the airfield up and find the aircraft ended up in a scrap yard a mile down the road !!!

Chaps, from my side, I am happy to contribute to a bigger project. I have always loved the Whirly. I started my spit with a quarter project and thats what I would like to do for this too! It is a worthy aircraft to get out there.

I could do with detail photos/drawings (especially those with dimensions!) of the structure and instrument panels.

I have a lovely photo somewhere of the proto Whirly cockpit and that is what I want to do.

The cockpit would be the equivalent of my old quarter cockpit Spit (see attached) which has grown somehwat since!

Hi Twin Otter not sure if the above is a serious point or an Advert ?. Or perhaps its both. The nearest thing that we have available that could make cockpit fest would be a Vampire cockpit and a Delfin cockpit the B727 is a long way off being sorted.

Anyway its a bit awkward trying to bring full size aircraft to Cockpit fest and as someone said to me only recently the clue is in the name of the event !!!!!.We ultimately hope to have a full aircraft .Unless of course do we know if there are any Whirlwind cockpit sections going ?.

I have a back burner 1/4 cockpit planned…gathering the stuff you saw in the photo….I may bring a selection of bits to the ‘Fest
