of course nothing to forgive…! It has happened to me too….I has a mustang with PB waving and it was too late!!! I almost ran to scan a shot taken by my Grandad from a Barracuda…..prob be too late lol!

Just a clarification…..a tenuous link is fine….although I started the thread…it is OUR thread….if it rambles (like most of us!) that is cool. It shows a reflection of interests (though it is little bogged down in AN-2 at the mo’ – they are lovely though). The idea is to link to the last photo – a bit like a chain, linking to a photo a few shots before is disappointing!
Also, it is cool if people can use pix from their collections or they took as this really makes it OUR thread….!!!

A&AEE was moved from Martlesham Heath to Boscombe Down to keep it safe from Bombing in 1939…it was bombed at BD but not badly as it were

very likely Ian! That phot I put up is (well was!) unpublished….I was amazed by the graffiti on it within 24hrs of crashing! This probably indicates the mood of the times. I have a cracking shot taken through the hole in the fin!

Nope, I may be many things but touchy is not one of them; we have dumb tabloids and armchair enthusiasts who grasp at such comments as fact. Establishments go out of their way to help and enthuse younger generations (ATC etc) and may not want all that is shown being shouted from the roof tops.

‘Telling the truth’ is not as black and white as you think fella! If everybody told the truth all the time, Hitler would have trampled the world and I (and you) would not be here!

Not everyone is an expert on crack propagation, fatigue, redundancy in structural design and finite element analysis?! All aircraft suffer from cracks – not all cracks are unacceptable.

I am so pleased with the rambling nature of this thread!

The lovely Hurricane picture has graffiti; on 18th August 1940, Bruce Hancock rammed a He111 over Windrush airfield in his Anson. Both aircraft came down. This photo (unpublished) shows the tail of the He111 with scribbled on graffiti

Aah, the lovely TSR2, first flown by Roly Beamont…..famous during the war for many things, including flying the Typhoon!
