RocketeerWhat you have is a Canadian made spade grip in magnesium alloy. The AH2040 number was intended for Hurricane/Swordfish/Battle aircraft. They would have been stored in stores for use on various types (listed above) sans brake levers/pivot posts/brake catch. The Harvard did not require the latter items as the brakes were on the pedals.
However, later, AH2040 grips were re-worked to cater for the gun button being made electric…..hence the requirement for string on the grip. The reworking also shaved off the bowden cable guide as it was not required on the Harvard (this made it essentially a AH2242)
So, in conclusion, you have a Canadian Harvard grip, modified post war to have an electric gun button.

It is difficult to answer such words…..the human race is capable of great things and wonders but unfortunately we do not use these powers to common good. We are like politicians who only look to the next election (or in our, general, case, our lifetime).
I suppose to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction…..example…say we cure a major illness and no-one else ever dies from it…..would that be good for the planet? Probably not. But it would be good for humankind.

I suppose it was the only justice they had? So are we now saying he had nothing to do with the bombing? So it was an injustice? I do not know the ins and outs of the case, but would like to think that he had something to do with it if he was found guilty. Dealing with countries that are known to deal in terrorism leaves a bad taste in ones mouth.
It is a sorry state of affairs….the only true justice would be to put everyone who had anything to do with it on trial – that is never likely to happen is it.

RocketeerSad that this thread has gone this way. The UK has had to put up with terrorists for many many years: The IRA and others of their ilk. We have not been lenient to them, until recently. I spent a wonderful 3 months in Seattle in 1999 and the only sad thing I saw there was a huge Noraid rally to support/give money to the IRA…..my cousin (Major Andrew French) was murdered by the IRA so I am not happy to appease any terrorists. In UK we have had to watch as the peace process has released many murderers.

That said, why must there be endless mud slinging both ways across the pond? Why do generalisations get thrown about? I do not like being lectured to about terrorism as if it is a new thing and we have no experience…..that is insulting to the many killed in Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and numerous other skirmishes where the UK have committed peacekeepers. The Lockerbie bombing added more UK victims as did 9/11.
