I spent many a happy afternoon cycling from Stow-on-the-Wold to LR to watch the aircraft. I have a bomb that was made for the film. It was dropped twice over LR. The first time they ballasted it with sand, after TO the sand ran to the back of the bomb and it fell tail first – this looked silly. So theypopped concrete in it. There used to be a door at LR from a B25…I was too young to appreciate it at the time.

Nope, that is P&W in Essex…..Peter Wood who own the AD540 remains is in Twyford Bucks and owned the Seafire 17 that Kennet will fly this year for many years. Peter has restored engines in the past though.

The museum is not without its faults, a few years ago I had a conversation with a respected airframe restorer who told me that a set of engines (or the remains of) owned by him and loaned to the museum, were unceremoniously scrapped by the museum as surplus to requirement without contacting him, as the rightful owner, before hand.

None of your are criticising Neville Duke for not donating his medals to the museum rather than selling them to a private collector in order to pay for his wife’s hip operation !!!! They have a huge significance to the museum, but after all were his to dispose of as he sought fit and for whatever reason.

I’ve bought and sold many aviation related items over ebay for profit, I’ve also bought items to enhance my collection. If my wife was more understanding I would quite happily fork out for this sign and hang it in our hall way, where I can admire it and reflect on its history, I certainly wouldn’t feel guilty about not donating it or loaning it to a museum.

My point is that at the end of the day if this guy is the rightful owner of these items, then they are his to dispose off at his leisure and in any way he seems fit. If he makes a profit good on him, and to be quite honest who are we to criticise?

Nauseating? I think the word is an understatement!!!, It is clearly apparent that this persons interest in aviation heritage can be measured in grammes not ounces and his interest in money out weights the damage/pain inflicted on those who have rightfully donated these items thinking they would be on display for future generations to come.

Lets hope that the awarenes brought about by this thread will ultimately result in these items being returned to their rightfull places of rest, Ok enough ranting, best give my boiling blood a rest!!!!!!.

Not true, Andy has written much on the BoB and Tangmere history and has a huge respect and place in keeping BoB history alive. If an item is his, then he has every right to do with it what he wants just like if you have the right to buy it and donate it back should you wish.

ISTR that after Andy, the museum scrapped lots of lovely aviation artefacts including engines etc. Also during Andy’s tenure a BoB spadegrip was used (without his knowledge) on the Spit simulator by a volunteer…not a worthy use. Tangmere museum would not exist now but for Andy.

So lets not all get too silly about this. BTW the Tangemere sign is Queens crown so dont get too upset.
