The Chinook will always be my favourite….something fantastic about it, it is the Thompson Helicopter….does exactly what it says in the can and more! From wingovers to low level/NOE to ramp riding around the valleys to landing on the water…yep gets my vote…but I am biased!!!

Thats FT375 shown in the photo. Sold at a Sotherby’s Auction in the 90s and now I believe living in Italy. KF183 is still based at Boscombe Down with the A&AEE (or whatever its called these days).

As to the dreaded groundloop….well it happens at one stage or another in everyone’s Harvard careers. I have witnessed it first hand from the backseat on a number of occasions.

FT375 had the most interesting history, but KF183 is still plying her trade at the MoD airfield at Boscombe Down…the official name is ATEC – Aircraft Test & Evaluation Centre which is made up of a service element and a QinetiQ element.

The AAM is ugly as is the land warfare hall as will be the expanded superhangar, they are not in keeping with this delightful airfield. However, they do get the exhibits (or some of them) undercover.

The latter is good, but the former is pants and a pity. They could have put up a nice WW1 replica hangar where the BoB film people blew up the last and some nice modern repros of T2’s. This would have been in keeping with the airfield’s original 30s/40s appeal and allowed the airfield to still get some revenue from the film industry and be appealing to the eye. Sorry, just my opinion.
Duxford should be like Hullavington..a conservation area..no need for daft faddy buildings.

Regarding the without the AAM blah it would be housing….er NO! I applaud the fund raising by all on both sides of the Pond that led to the AAM, but a memorial just as nice could have been created with period type buildings.

Yes the Canberra nose is for the Aeropark, owned by one of our members. It will be on display next to WH740 Canberra.

if you don’t mind losing the finish, sandblast it and repaint it. Otherwise cleaning with water, let dry and paint with varnish?

DONT sandblast it!!! Dont use polyeurethane varnish as itwill yellow

Nice photos,I have just flown back (was at Fantasy of Flight on Sunday) mucho fun…will post a photo or two if anyone wants…the lovebugs were a pain, though I and the girlfriend enjoyed ourselves. For an all round museum, you cannot beat Kermits imaginitive museum.

Sadly Kermit could not fly as he was in New Zealand….ummmm?!

Maybe it contains 100,000 inflatable spitfires and a million rubber dog poos for sale on the stalls?!!
