….. But “killing a plane to save it’s brain” is not good preservation in my book. I know you all differ on this so I’ll shut up now, and await your scorn…

This rarely happens now…it is more a case of saving what you can after the scrappy has finished. So saving the brain cos you cannot save the plane is more the case.

A museum of worthy cockpits is a very nice museum…I am however biased!

    Rocketeer,

Looks like the right hand section of a ball turret…too bad somebody went crazy with the green spray paint. Nice piece though!!!

    John

It is a nice item and will be painted up correctly etc..it came out the sea (still trying to find the history, apparently it came down near Nabs Towers off the south coast of the UK!)

I don’t mind airports, cannot stand passenger jets…just don’t like not having a part in the aircraft’s destiny. If that makes sense?! Don’t like heights either, but fine flying and did a parachute jump!

    Ah a zombie thread…
Please read all the previous posts – the owner has a history of telling those enquiring after his Lightning to close the door quietly on their way out (or something like that). So unless there is some new news about this one, or you have something totally new and exciting to add to the discussion, please refrain from posting here. Thanks. 🙂

If it was a Spitty or anything else, this thread would keep going and going….I am more than happy for people to ressurrect threads where there is hope of saving something….

    That’s more like it.

That control bellcrank and the four tubes converging and supporting of diameter various are a perfect match. 🙂

There are some spars in one of the photos that look very Hawker.

Melvyn, it certainly looks like a Hawker Osprey to me!! Only Hawker bipe that had those bracing struts….and the Osprey is extinct so that is one gem of a project!!

As a Hurri builder, it never ceases to amaze me how much development Hawker got from their tried and tested design practices!

    Rocketeer,

yes its the stainless one, about 15″ long, and yes, I would have the A-2 release unit as well as I would like to hang the bomb from a section of racking. Do you have? Can i buy….?

    Adrian

tankbarrell, pm me and I may be able to help with genuine B17 items.

The first of Mark12’s phots shows a Hawker origin cockpit frame. The joint G is virtually identical to that fitted to a Hurricane. BUT it is not a Hurricane, my suggestion would be a Hawker bipe….something like a fury or Hart, Tomtit?

Idiot I am!! Its Hawker Osprey…sorry for being so thick!!
