If you are trying to keep a part in original condition and preserve paint, I suggest an acrylic lacquer (definitely not polyeurathane based as it yellows). I use this on mag alloy grips etc (it comes in satin finish), if it is a total restoration then it is back to bare metal and a suitable paint system. As others have said, you need to remove one or more of the ingredients for corrosion. O2 is the easiest, hence a coat of lacquer.

Another milestone achieved last week after a complete re-wire power was applied for the first time, since the BoB film?, we now have cockpit lighting, ident light and rudder nav light working and no smell of burning !!!!!!!!!!

One of the worst experiances when the RAF were training pilots from foreign forces is that they did’nt understand ejection seats. My own experiance was when we used to change the role of a JP from dual to solo so the student could go for his solo flight, after the ejection seat pins were removed and stowed the student allways had a habit of then checking his seat for the correct height. This was done by reaching for the overhead ejection handle and giving it a slight tug. A slap on the bone dome (helmut) while I was jumping of the wing usually stopped him in his tracks, and a bollocking from the QFI when he got back.

Ouch Colin!! That would have been at least curtains for him given that the JP seat is not a zero-zero!! When I flew in Hunter and JP I was so keen to get the pins back in!!!
One terrible story was the ATC cadets who decided to take ejection seat pins as their souvenirs!!
