i can remember a sea king seat recently on Ebay. The tail number sounds right (might be a Junglie). They are very basic seats (very similar to the P51 Mustang!). We still use them, not just on Sea Kings – quite comfortable!
that is wacky Tony. I sold my spare one about a month ago on Ebay. It was the second time listed, went for a lowly £6.50 and went stateside!!!
Nice early hyd hand pump there Ian. They were phased out on the later D models. The pump went on the right (starboard side) of the seat. I have one for my P51D
Very touching and overdue. Glad she is remembered
yep, looked Sea King to me too TonyT. Another bargain!
Martyn, nice collection there!!!! Any ideas what we will do at Fest? Gokone may wish to join in as may others?
Jason is (obviously) correct. the unit was a clamp that sat at the bottom of the stick. The knob went into the unit. Your knob and the unit was red to show that it was obviously set. It would have been found during full and free checks if accidentally set.
The shots below show it – bizarrely or brilliantly – remove a P51 fuz and the column stays on one piece wing!
Aha Ian, you bought that lovely early A4 then…..a bargain IIRC!! Lovely A4 group – I have the outer 2 types, kicking around!!!
Yep, looking at Martyn’s photo and some look ups I have done suggest that an FJ-2 Fury is most likely….thanx all
Thanx for that Martyn! Glad to know I am not the only one tohave a muddled ‘archive’
cheers will check those out.
Sfp54 – love the grip….this is off a Me262 I think (hope!)
Whilst not my favourite grip……does anyone know what this is off please? It is a USA Mason made grip. Trims in pitch and roll would suggest after 1947 but before a B8 grip.
lovely prop! I love those sort of things
The brake catch is mounted on a post (machined) which has a thread on the end and goes into the casting. As you say, a split pin holds it in place. I was going to get the pair ….i.e. post and the brake lever post made. Costs would be a bit high, so did not do. Could make with the right ba bolts.
The markings often wear with time/use so can be difficult to read. You are right that 80HP is too little! Many companies used decals – they were very resilient. Chances are your prop was used. Best way to tell is any wear around the hub area where it bolts on. You also sometimnes get oil there too.
Would love to see photos. I love props and trench art from props!
Nice stuff Nicko! That is a huge bob weight on the stick! Given the config of the DH108, I guess it had extremely light stick force per g – so the need to increase it (to prevent easily overstressing the aircraft by pulling too much g). A bob weight on the top of the column in not the best way of doing so (lever arms/inadvertent affects – affected by g for instance) – but sometimes you had no choice due to design of the bottom of the column. The same is done on some Seafires. The Typhoon had a similar problem, so a huge lump of lead was added to a tray in forward of the column base.
Also nice to see a variation on the D (squashed) type of spade grip!
