 I thought that was the conclusion of the clever people on the telly

It was the conclusion of one of the participants in the programme I believe. He may not have been aware that PT879 suffered the same ‘injury’ as a result of a collision at 1500m altitude, the pilot baled out and the tail-less aircraft fell to earth but remained on the surface, inverted (although somewhat crumpled). I cannot tell you what the science is behind it and it sounded a very reasonable conclusion when I heard it last night but today I realised that here is an exception to this ‘rule’.

excluded as being Baders because it apparently landed on its belly (impossible if it had been tail-less)?
    DS

This assumption is incorrect if it suggests that a tail-less aircraft could not arrive on the ground un-manned in a relativley intact state, (ie: as surface wreckage only with nothing to excavate).

    Cant wait for Goodwood,

Can’t imagine it without Ray, he was an inherant and irreplaceable part of that event. 🙁

    Mark ,your losing your grip,

Bet you can’t see the wood for the trees with Spitfires!!

Lost it ages ago mate 😀

Too many PS’s and too early in the morning. As for you – you are obviously spending far too much time around them :p

where, there was an event like this year at Duxford.

the big late 80’s event at Duxford was in 1988, I think there were around 12 Spitfires attending.

BTW, are the Spitfires leaving Duxford for Goodwood on Friday or probably early-morning Saturday ?

One or two may leave on Thursday as there is normally a 08.50 display slot to open the meeting (its a three day event) on Friday morning, the remainder will certainly be there by midday on Friday.

“You don’t know how lucky you are mate”

    Well said.

Any show with quantities of Spitfires in double figures is very special in my book – I shall certainly be there on both days 🙂

So we can expect (flying) :-
    PT462
    MJ627
    ML407
    IAC 161 (PV202)
    SM845
    RN201
    TD248
    TA805
    MK732
    JG891*
    3 x BBMF
    PL965
    PS853
    BM597

Plus the ones I have forgot and a/c returning from Goodwood on Sunday – looks like its going to be a great show if they all turn up.

BTW – this is a list of aircraft that I am assuming will be available to attend (subject to the usual), not necassarily what has been booked.
