I cant stand golf, but I hope we have a misunderstanding here, and Im hoping that also this comment is down to a possibilty that I may have worded my sentance wrongly. I have edited my original post in bold to reflect this.
Bex – I think that comment was actually a joke from ‘Propstrike’ but was not obvious due to a lack of ‘smilies’!
Wow, as I’m writing this, the DX P-40B just came whistling overhead, heading home, it looked and sounded fantastic!!!!!!!
Where had it been? (are you sure it was not the H11 P-40 heading back to Weald from Rougham?)
As for Don Campbells Spit this evetually came to the UK and rebuilt to flying conition. I beleive it is now flying in the USA, owner one Paul Allen of Microsoft fame. If this is not the case I am sure one of the other forum chaps will put me right!
Chumpy.
Correct – its serial is AR614.
What is the best aircraft that has been produced but from a small, militarily insignificant country?
The Martin Baker MB5 was reckoned to be outstanding.
Looks like a P-51 Mustang main fuel tank gauge. Capacity 92 US gallons is correct and the gauge would have been fitted directly to the top wall of the tank, visible through cut-outs in the cockpit floor.
MkIXc NH238 (WoGB/Flying A Services – stored?)
Yep.
More testing tomorrow and the weekend, but looking good so far.
I was at Hurn today and saw her take off and land. Did not realise the significance! All the best to you.
Hi Bruce;
Thanks, and anything helps. But, how do you know this? Do you happen to have any drawings or material specs?
Cheers, Tom.
Its common knowledge for any Spitfire student. Most (but by no means all) of the Spitifre drawings are commercially available via a number of sources plus the archives of the RAF Museum.
From the ebay auction:
This auction is for a brochure listing the contents of the sale of this 1940s Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII aircraft.
Can anyone explain this post to me please?
Moggy
Yes- its a (slightly baffling) reference to the next Cruise film ‘Valkyrie’ – due for release next year. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985699/
The other one that I was working on did not make it to Oshkosh either but flew directly back to Virginia Beach – photo in the latest edition of Flypast!
Just out of interest, which companies serve both events?
The Fighter Collection!
Its a BBMF Spitfire but not always the Mk II. The Bentley Priory evening display slot is a regular one for them and they use whichever Spitfire is most convenient. Have alook at the BBMF website and you can see when the next one will be – well worth dropping by if you are local.
So – all ready for Oshkosh? I hope so – there is still a possibility of getting two Hurricanes there and both straight out of their respective paint shops!
Should be finished and ready to roll out today/Friday!
