Quick question. Why is everyone moaning about this show?
I do not see everyone moaning – by and large the comments are very positive about the show
We go on about it for months in advance and when its come and gone you moan. It is so pathetic of you guys, you should be greatful.
Legends is the pre-eminent warbird show in Europe, however it is a commercial event that is presented to the paying public so the concept that people should be ‘grateful’ seems to be stretching things a little. If the show is good enough, as it always is year after year, people will come and pay to see it, its as simple as that.
Many people work hard to get Legends up and running and it has always been, in my eyes, a success. yes I get annoyed about wind breaks and umpires chairs but I choose not to share with others because its been done before on here as I am now well aware that what we go to Legends for should not be taken for granted.
Agreed but that appreciation should not stiffle any comments or criticisms. The people who put on this fabulous event are not delicate wall-flowers unable to cope with the slightest criticism. They appreciate your applause and positive comments but are intelligent enough to deal with any sensible negative comments too. I can say that from experience, having worked as a volunteer for the organisers (TFC) on eleven consecutive Legends (1996 – 2006)
Moderators is not your job to control the amount of sniping and bickering which goes on here? If so then I believe a little self moderation could be used 😉
Come on – its a discussion forum in a free country for goodness sake 🙂
green/gray uppers, light gray lowers.
Read Dark Green, Ocean Grey and Medium Sea Grey.
The markings before the camoflage surprised me also, as this was different than how MK959 was done….
My recollection was that was exactly the same way 959 was done – check your old pictures 😉
Link not working!
Interesting photos – obviously the water is murky and the aircraft has been down there for decades but the fusealge roundel looks like what we refer to as a Type C1 today (ie: thin Yellow and White rings). This was not generally introduced until May 1942 yet the aircraft was lost in 1940?
This one for Lee Howard perhaps – but did the Royal Navy use a similar roundel back in 1940, the RAF certainly did not.
Thanks for posting these shots CC 🙂 . Interesting method being used on the markings there – completely applying them prior to spraying the camouflage. Everyone seems to have a different technique.
Hi VoyTech – your PM inbox is full! 🙂
would it be possible to get in touch with Wojtek and see how he arrived at this possibility? Is he a member of this forum?
If you PM VoyTech he will put you in touch with him directly 🙂
I think he means this http://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org/museum/restoration.htm
A week ago it was in primer.
Great – how is it now? Its down for Oshkosh later this month so all will be revealed then I suppose.
Would it be achievable in the squadron workshops?
No.
Well the aircraft is now in the paint shop in Goderich, Ontario – and around half way through the re-paint. She is in the good hands of Sky Harbour who are carrying out the work in conjunction with Warbird Colour Services. I will be there to work with Sky Harbour on the detailed markings and stencils once the main camouflage colours are on next week.
I will see if I can get some progress pictures posted in the meantime.
When was the last time a P-51 flew the Atlantic under her own power, please?
Possibly G-SUSY, flown over for Charles Church by Jack Shaver, mid 1980’s. Anders Mustang also flew across but earlier I think.
I’ll be there too 🙂 You can find me in the warbird area most of the time.
Glad you like the paintscheme though
Me too – a little appreciation makes my 0.01% of the job seem worthwhile!
