Any updates on B-17G “Mary Alice” looking forward to new markings.
The Vampire T.11, wow it looks great ! the benchmark for other museums to aim for. Perhaps a restoration thesis could be made available after this. Am I right in saying that the left and right forward canopy windows are of a different size ?

The film from the P-51D gun cameras would fit the US cine cameras. The 339thFG were based at Bassingbourn from Fowlmere due to runway repairs(laying of PSP) 18/01/45 to 05/02/45. One of the 339th personnel must have given camera film to the photographer.

Thanks for the input everyone ,I am busy with work at moment hope to catch up later. Pagen 01 note the dayglo is redder with the Light Aircraft Grey finish.
The 361FG fought for the freedom of Bottisham people . Shame that money and greed have taken over, people have short memories of sacrifices made. I wish you well and hope you get the museum resettled soon.
Dave,
Thank you for a very factual detailed account warrants more investigation. The new polyurethane paints came in mid sixties and gave a more weatherproof ,durable finish. Brooklands Aviation at Little Staughton had Westgate hangar converted to control spraying humidity and heat, for Varsity resprays. The polyurethane gave a smell liked cooked bacon .
Would like to know the BS number for the Flourescent Red Orange colour ?
Bill many thanks for the reply yes I think the red/white finish happened about 1969.
92 Bomb Group Podington B-17G 43-37535 JW:F 326 Bomb Sqdn. named “Baby Button” del 4.6.44. Missing in Action 22.9.44 2/Lt M Sample.
The date and serial number are on the photo we know the Group so a trawl through Bill Donalds “John Burn One Five” found the necessary serial number to back up Andys reply. Why is there always an inquistion and people being upset . Lets all share the info and help one another, afterall that is what this forum is supposed to be about 🙂
I saw this flying out of Twinwoods in the seventies owned by David Wilkinson ? It was mainly silver then . Twinwood closed to flying in 1984 the runways were broken up in November of that year. Also remember Tiger Moth G-ANOO doing the glider tugging there.
I live near Podington (SantaPod) airfield apart from the crashes and incidents on the base within a five mile radius of here the following came down:
Blenheim IV,Mosquito B.IV,Fairey Battle,B-17G.
It is 43-38052 coded KY:L captained by Lt Emil V. Potucek . It was assigned to the Group 6/Aug 44 and 4 days later had the incident shown however it was repaired and Missing in action in Oct 44. Note the fuel truck to the left de-fuelling about to start then air bags would have righted the wings to lower the undercarriage. Great photo.
My mother was in the WRAF from 1940-1952 and served at station HQ Perranporth at this time. She died last year and would have liked this. Thank you for posting.
