DDM,
Ooops again. Yes, you’re right, he was asking about PH. My only excuse is that I had just got home from work!
Geoff.
PhantomII,
Pillot Jack Canary, a Technical advisor in charge of assembling the aircraft for the film, was killed when the BT-13 he was ferrying crashed following an in-flight fire.
One of the ‘Vals’ and it’s pilot were lost during filming, though the pilot is not named in this article. A ‘Kate’ was also lost, though in this case the pilot was saved.
Geoff.
Ooops
DDM,
There’s a five page article on the making of TTT in the December 1991 issue of FlyPast. If you haven’t got this, PM me your address & I’ll photocopy it for you.
In the meantime, here’s the cast list from that article:-
dhfan,
Is it the Seafire IB, MB340 (ex Vb, BL689), flown by Lt Duncan Hamilton, Port Reitz, Kenya., you’re thinking of?
Geoff.
Is this still on? Any more takers?
Could it have been a trials a/c?. An airborne test-bed trying out different nose arrangements, to see which was the best? Perhaps it might have been something to do with the B-32, Privateer, or the Lib?
How about trying the pic on a US based forum?
I seem to recall seeing loads of these on stalls at airshows. I think they were quite cheap. Nothing for Corgi to worry about!
Wasn’t there a B-24 fitted with a B-17 nose, or was it the other way round????
Told you 🙂
Found this, but it’s not much.
” Rough Diamonds ” Aerobatic Team Royal Navy , Brawdy 1967-69. Led by Lt. Cdr Christopher Comins the team lasted for 5 years
The answer will be in a book. No matter how good the Internet is, you still can’t beat books 🙂
Geoff
Skipper,
Nothing new I’m afraid. Plenty of people have read my post on the Army Air Forces forum, but no replies. When I get the chance to visit Motor Books, I’ll try looking in a few of their B-24/17 books. If I get nothing there I’ll try the D.Certs as a last resort.
Geoff.
Looking through Len Mosley’s book on the making of ‘BoB’, I see that Don Federico Eglesias Lanzos was killed flying a Bouchon from Tablada on the 20/1/68. Lanzos was due to fly a Bouchon in the flying sequences for ‘BoB’ but died whilst doing aerobatics on his own. A minutes silence was held in his memory on the 13/3/68, I believe this was the first days filming – the opening scene that runs behind the titles.
Was this the only fatality involved with the film? Will he be mentioned on the website?
Geoff.
DDM,
I shall look forward to seeing the website grow.
Geoff.
Mark,
I haven’t seen the badge myself yet. I’m hoping to get a copy of it in the next few days, and when I do, I’ll post it on here.
Geoff.
