And again.
Another ‘111’ badge. Anyone know what part of London?
A couple of photos from….
Mark,
That is one great photo. Yes, I can’t see it being repeated at Leg-ends sometime in the future.
Would be nice if a better view of it emerged though, with the bow visible.
BTW does Duxford not have a CASA ‘111’ now? How about them repainting it after resoration as one of the film ‘111s’? Which leads me to ask was it in the film?
Will there be a ‘Where are they now’ page on the website? Is this another website you’re referring to, or are you setting up another website? If so, then yes I’d like to have a look. You can PM me with the URL if you want to let other people see it when its done.
Did you get the stuff about ramrod OK? Still loking for a copy of Robert’s first BoB film book, no joy yet!
Geoff.
Mark,
It could be. I can see the bomb on the badge you mention, but not the bow (as in arrow) though. Have you got any other images of that badge?
I’m off to work now, see you in the morning.
Geoff.
snapper – ‘Enemy fighter at high altitude waiting to attack’
Guys,
I now have permission to reveal the reason for my interest in the subject of ‘Battle of Britain’ badges……
As you may be aware, I’m involved with the Shoreham Aircraft Museum (http://www.shoreham-aircraft-museum.co.uk). Recently, the museum was given one of the ‘stick-on’ badges that was used in the film. The badge is a yellow shield, with a black bomb being fired by a bow (angled from top left to bottom right) on it. I hope to have an image of this to post in a few days.
From what we’ve established so far, this must have been carried by one of the ‘111s’ used in the film. I gather that it was picked up at Duxford, having been taken off and thrown away.
Do any of you have any images of this badge ‘in situ’ on a ‘111’? Did one or both ‘111s’ from Duxford carry it? Did any of the ‘111s’ that stayed in Spain carry it?
Any images/info would be most welcome.
Geoff.
‘Weaver to Red Leader, watch out snappers behind’
Was this some Airman’s way of digging a foxhole without all the effort?
Mark,
The diaries are excellent, mind you perhaps 609 should have been given Spitfires with fixed undercarts, and rubber props 🙂
Geoff.
DDM,
Pm on its way. I’ve just ordered Rudhall’s second book on the film (‘Battle of Britain’ the photo album’) on-line from Motor Books, but still need to get hold of a copy of ‘Battle of Britain the movie’.
Any aircraft in BoB should be on the site, real and replicas.
You may want to check out groups.yahoo.com/group/graue_adler/ which is a modeling website for people wanting to model a/c from films. Have a gander at their photos page, there’s a folder there for BoB, plus 633 sqdn, Where eagles dare, etc.
Will all the stuff on this thread be copied to the new website?
Geoff.
Are the Robert Rudhall books on the making of the film worth getting? I’ve tried to find them on the Internet, but can only find the second (photo) book. Anyone know where the first book can be found, or have a copy to sell?
I’ve managed to get a copy of the Leonard Mosley paperback on the making of the film, pub in 1969. 🙂
Geoff
DDM,
Thanks for setting up the Yahoo group, I’ve just doubled the membership to 2!
Mark,
Yes, I’m aware of the problem with saying Red8 must be… but if we can put a database together of the various permutations of spinner/codes colour, No, badge etc. we might be able to make a few educated guesses, so long as we say ‘possibly’ or ‘probably’ so people know that it isn’t gospel.
Peter’s list is interesting, but it does suggest to people that Red8 was always C4K-31. A database will hopefully show if other a/c carried Red8 too, and so forth.
With the Luftwaffe a/c its going to be a case of comparing oil stains, paint chips etc. to tie-up various markings with a/c, let alone an ID for the a/c.
Looking at the pic on Connie in his << Bouchon, that looks to have had the spread eagle with bits hanging down from the wing badge removed & his own badge put on top. See, we need an easy way to refer to the various badges…
The ‘address’ for the groups homepage is –

Geoff.
Col,
I’ve sent Bruce’s address to you in a Personnal Message (PM) so check your forum PM inbox. PM me back to let me know you’ve got it OK.
Geoff.

May I pancake now?
Geoff.
