It is important to have a good team behind you.

You have to appeal to the whole family. Abingdon covers that but it costs £56,000 just to run it. [figure taken from the 2011 programme]. That cost includes the fee to DE for the airfield and after the hassles of recent years there has been times where they have wondered “Is it worth it?” but they keep on raising the money for the local Air Ambulance. The first event cost just £1000 but the event was very small and backed by an individual.

It is the only airshow I go to and that is because I “work” it.

Best of luck if you want to run one.

The glider was doing an amazing aero routine that ended with a landing back to the start point.

    Lovely shots there.

A cracking weekend was had by all – despite the rain and storms at night.

Well SWMBO and I watched and and she enjoyed it and found it interesting and for anything aeronautically based to do that is very rare!

I found it interesting and made a change from the usual programmes on the raid illustrating how Barnes Wallis managed to get all the theory and ideas to come together in such trying times. Some brilliant low flying and skills (apart from the accordion playing – although I should think it is a hard tune to play well on one such as his).
Not too much CGI which was a refreshing change and the footage of the A-26(?) dropping the bomb so low was new to me.

Such a refreshing change from reality shows with wannabes or “celebrity” people!

Kartman I think you are thinking of G-IDDY.
Promoted as the “Mighty Munk” she was modified to full Super Chipmunk standard. Rebuilt from G-BBMS (c/n C1/0359 – WG306) in 1978 after a crash by Harvest Air.
She was powered by a Lycoming 0-540 G1A5 with a Hoffman 3 bladed prop.
She marked the 75th anniversary of Bleriot’s cross channel flight by flying Calais to Dover inverted.
She was sold in December 1999 to America as N311SH.

I have a copy of the excellent tome by Hugh Shields, Rod Brown, Jose Goncalves and Rod Blievers.

    Nice photos there.
Been ages since I’ve seen a Wot.

Nice to know the other marshallers were being kept busy today whilst I was (still am) at work.
