“Smaller scale replicas seem to have better handling capabilities then the full size. Not heard anything bad in the way of WAR replicas etc etc.”
Don’t be mislead! The handling of the WAR replicas is nothing like that of the originals,a pilot was killed on the way home from a PFA Rally a few years ago when he attempted some aerobatics in his WAR SeaFury. As far as I know,NONE of the WAR replicas are cleared for aerobatics and some of these other look-alike kitplanes have some strict limitations.
“Just rewinding a little to that pic of the Me-110 being choppered (slung) out,…it looks like to me that the right engine was stopped before it bellied…see how only the bottom of the prop is bent…
Whatya reckon ?
Nothing in it, just an observation…….”
IIRC,this Bf110 crashed into trees during an attack on a Soviet airfield and became lodged in the treetops where it stayed until recovery 50 years later,so I don’t think it bellied at all!
Hi Pete,
Work on MW763/G-TEMT is progressing slowly but surely, she may even fly this year. There have been some hold ups with the engine rebuild and ofcourse this is a pioneering restoration so there are bound to be other gremlins to iron out before she can fly,but on the whole things appear to be progresing nicely.
Tempest Two’s other Tempest,G-PEST is currently in storage and to my knowledge hasn’t been worked on since it left Autokraft a decade ago.
Try a search of the G-INFO database, they often have photo’s along with the ownership and status details.
Don’t forget the Belgian Air force also operated the Battle, many of them built in belgium by Avions Fairey.Looking forward to seeing the pic Roger…
Hi Gerry,
You should be able to click on the word ‘look’ in the sentence “If you wanna take a look, just click the link.”
Hi Dhfan,
I think the one you mention has since been restored to static condition and placed on display in a German museum (I don’t have access to my back issues at the moment, but it was featured in A*roplane and Flypast around this time last year IIRC).
As for airworthy projects, the only one I can think of belongs to the AREA organisation in Italy who proposed some years ago restoring a wreck recovered from Russia, although I’ve heard nothing of it since.
I have to agree with both Robbo and Steve, things were getting seriously out of order.I’m pretty broadminded, but some of what was said was plain nasty.
*Bump*
Time’s running out…:(
“I hear there is a Mk1 Hurricane in this country that should be flying by the end of the year. It is apparently going to be powered by a Merlin III. Can anyone reveal who’s it is and where it is?”
“R4118 is the serial, if it’s the same Hurricane I’m thinking of.”
I think this one is owned by Peter Vacher, husband of the record breaking aviatrix Polly Vacher.Hope Polly isn’t thinking of flying this one to the North Pole!
Hi Glenn,
That’s great news, are you allowed to give any details on what her new colour scheme might be??
I was just thinking the same as Daz,but looking at it I’m not sure they’re the same one.
Excellent site Linzee, thanks very much for the link,I have the feeling i’ll be there sometime… 🙂
Speaking of Robin Olds’ old mounts,NA F86A Sabre G-SABR of Golden Apple/ARCo at Duxford is another of his old machines.I believe he flew it for a time when he was stationed in Europe in the early ’50’s.IIRC he was reunited with her a few years ago (while she was being operated by OFMC) although he didn’t actually fly her.
The chap with burns who played a cameo role in Battle of Britain was Bill Foxley. He was training as a navigator on Wellingtons when the aircraft crashed on a night nav-ex and he was trapped within the wreckage and very badly burnt.I think this was later in the war, around ’43 or ’44,but can’t remember exactly.
