Just a thought,but would a TV programme be a good enough reason to dig up some of the capitals major roads?I’ve heard that there are a number of BofB aircraft still resting where they came down under London’s streets because it’s always been deemed that tehre would be too much traffic disruption to recover them in the past.The Hurricane with which Ray Holmes rammed the Dornier over Buckingham Palace on the 15th Sept is under a road junction in Piccadilly for example.

My favourite has to be the late,great ‘California Cutie’.Was devastated when I first heard that she’d crashed,still can’t believe it…

According to the Database article,the differences between the 9 and 11 were mostly internal.The La11 had revised fuel and oil systems and had a greater internal fuel tankage and because of the increased endurance this brought about the cockpit was updated with better blind flying instruments and a comfier seat.Interestingly,the La11 also had provision for wing tip fuel tanks like a Lockheed T-33 although these seem to have never been fitted in service.
The La11 was the result of something called Project 134,the idea being to create an improved and standardised La9. Previously,La9’s had been built to varying standards with differing equipment fit and standardising brought about faster production and easier maintenence in the field.

Hi Steve,
A*roplane published a Database section on the ‘late Lavochkins’ a few months back, which included a survivors listing.IIRC, there are a couple of La-9’s in China,although they’re on outdoor display and looking pretty terrible.I can post the survivors listing tomorrow if anyone’s interested??

Thanks for the correction Daz,I did wonder about the WAR 190’s having seen piccies of that Scottish one doing some impressive stuff.
